What makes the auto touring models so heavy?

Im in the market for an fd and was just reading over some stuff and i noticed the auto touring model is 2923 lbs versus the 5-speed touring model is 70lbs lighter. why is this? and also what makes the touring model so heavy compared to the r1 and base?

Auto tranny, sun roof, rear hatch, just more luxury stuff in general.

+ Bose stereo system. The lightest one is technically the base model.

Touring models had some extra sound insulation too that the other models didn't have.

Funny to think of FD and luxury in the same train of thought.

A/T should be illegal for sports cars. Honestly what kind of ***** driver buys a sports car and not want to learn how to drive M/T. A/T has more reslae value. **** taht, auto makers should just stick to M/T for sports car taht way people won't have to convert it later, find a parts car

funny you should say that. i went to test drive an RX8 the other day and the only one they had on the lot was auto. i refused to drive it, and when the salesman asked why i told him "i don't believe in automatic sports cars."

I went to a Cheverolet dealer a few months back with a friend, and they wanted like 60,000+ for an automatic vette. Very Sad.

Its like none of you read his post. He said what is dif between a auto touring and a manual touring. They both have sun roof, rear wiper, leather, cruis control, bose, and every thing else that make a touring. The only dif is the tranny and im sure the auto has a tranny cooler. The auto has to weight more than a manual tranny.

the problem is that most americans are pussies and want automatics. also, the auto tranny RX-7's actually bring less money because nobody wants to buy them.

The auto trans is significantly larger and heavier than the manual and holds alot more fluid.

Leno put it best: if you want an automatic just buy the video and save yourself a lot of money.

Yes, there is a clutch. There is just no clutch pedal.

Seems to me all the people that think Auto's are for "pussies" haven't realized all the race cars have gone to some sort of auto transmissions, just because the "drivers" aren't all they think they are. The rest of us PRO's still drive our manuals on the street. Power glide is still king in Pro street, all the top fuel cars run a direct drive just change the pressure applied to the clutch.

Yet it still shifts faster than a manual or auto box

You guys need to remember that some of the fastest cars in the world in terms of straightline racing use an auto transmission. Of course in a car like the rx7 that wasnt built for straightline racing, i agree with the 7club.

The original post was answered with the 2nd post. End of story. The rest is just opinions.
Besides....we ALL know it takes a REAL man to be comfortable in an automatic FD!
