What major components need to be removed in order to remove the lower intake manifold


I have not found a clearly defined procedure in the service manual.

Do you need to remove the turbos?

Yep, you have to remove the turbos. That is the biggest thing.

So basically you have to remove the downpipe, all of the intake piping, the turbos, UIM, and some of the fuel system. It's a big PITA.

The FSM is a piece of crap, in my opinion, for finding a procedure for something like this. According to the FSM, you don't need to remove the turbos, which is completely wrong.
