If we are all agreed that longevity is not the goal, then why spend all this money on synthetic? I am running on my third motor (original to 130,000, 2nd [reman] to 68,000), and I have used mineral based engine oil the entire time. In the twin turbo configuration, I think the 130,000 mark was about the best to expect for an original motor and 68,000 is what everyone else is getting out of a reman. The original motor lost a coolant o-ring and the reman blew an apex seal. I have yet to see any significant wear or bearing issue even in older engines such as those I have taken out of my nephew's 2nd gen and an old repu motor. There are others on here who have seen more engines than I, but I doubt wear has been much of an issue. This is not intended to address jacked-up race motors, that are reved at extremes. There a synthetic may make some difference in how often you rebuild your race motor (i.e., every 10,000 miles vs. every 5,000 miles).
