my diff bushings are shot. 138k miles and a previous owner who couldnt drive worth a **** really does them in pretty fast. Any time I try to shift aggressively (which is rather difficult with my fucked up tranny) I get a horrible clunk in the rear end.

Now, Im not sure if I want to go solid diff bushings. I plan on getting a mazdaspeed diff brace in the near future so that coupled with solid diff bushings seems like overkill. One of my hotrod friends has talked about what he's seen when guys with older hotrods replace bushings with solid ones. It ends up warping the unibody frame. This is something Id rather not do. Now, Im not sure if that applies to the RX7, but still, solid bushings + diff brace = not too fun to daily drive. So what would you suggest? Id like to keep it under $300

 

you answered your own question! Stock. less than 300 and the previous driver didn't have anything to do with it The 138k miles is what did them in. And the fact that they are liquid filled and located in a area of the car that sees quite a bit of heat. So quit trying to feel like you can drive mad fast yo!! J/K!!! It is the age of the car and milage that's all. Mine are bad too,... does that mean I can't drive worth a ****? I think not

 

Id like to upgrade though and get something thats not liquid filled. My new transmission Im putting in soon is going in with a 9.5LB flywheel and spec 4puck clutch. Id like to keep drivetrain movement at a minimum. A harder bushing would be nice. I dont need a solid one though.

 

Unfortunately you are pretty much out of luck, unless you can make your own.

^^^ thoses diff bushings are from Pettit (www.pettitracing.com). About your only upgrade(non liquid-filled) choice unless someone sells their diff bushings from their Jimlab nylon bushing kit. Otherwise, you're stuck with new liquid-filled rubber ones.

 

I believe that a friend of FDNewbie's has made a prototype urathane bushing. If I remember correctly Rotorbrain was going to try them out and report back. Maybe PM FD or Rotorbrain and see if any updates are available.

FWIW: I have a 6 puck unsprung clutch in my car, I have the new stock bushings on hand and am just waiting for solid ground to work on to swap them in..( Our house is still being built and all the other ground is dirt and it has been raining like a bitch lately)
I will report to you what they feel like when i get them swapped.,.. Probably a few more weeks though.
