My first guess is that it is a fuel thermosensor but I didn't know why it was there until I opened the shop manual.
It is part of a series of switches and sensors which controls the fuel pressure regulator solenoid to control and "regulate" the fuel pressure regulator it self.
It works by sending as an inverse resistor which the ECU monitors and acts on the pressure regulator solenoid according to both resistance settings and conditional inputs from other components such as the ignition switch, neutral switch, and throttle sensor.
When hot, the fuel pressure solenoid is switched to cut vacuum to the fuel pressure regulator.
I'm not sure what affect it will have on the system as a whole, but it may return a bad error code, but the manual plays it off as a "hot start" helper as well as an idle enhancer.
Interesting
