to the left we have a diagram of the rx7 from the mazda dealership indicating what the true water temp gauge is. to the right we have a drawing of what i thought was the same thing. WHAT THE HECK IS IT? it is located on the front center, easy to acess, and it does read something off the coolant because when you pull it out coolant goes everywhere. the wire goes to a connector that is mounted upright on the block.

Low coolant sensor.

Erstwhile known as the replace engine sensor.

That is the coolant level switch. It trips the buzzer & dash LED if the coolant level goes too low.

There is a coolant temp sensor on the back side of the waterpump housing that tells the ECU the engine temp, there is another one below that (or was it above?) that trips the cooling fan relay, & then there is the dash coolant gauge sender which threads into the driver side of the rear end plate.

True water temp gauge is under and to the left of the oil pressure sender, which itself is right under the oil filter mount, which as you know is on the drivers side of the engine. Look in section 3-G 6 of the parts fiche. You are looking for part number 18-510 as the general category, JE15-18-51X or KL01-18-51X for the particulars.

ARG! this was the assumption the mazda parts guy and i came up with. the mechanic said such an indicator did not exist. well, now i will ask them specifically for that part and we will see what happens.

thanks for the help guys, even if you had to fall all over yourselves. i get it back in fold when i try to go buy parts and get treated like a bimbo
