What is a good company to buy a jspec engine from?

Greetings all.

Ive been working through potentially rebuilding my 7 since the coolant seals have all but failed at this point. I'm looking around on the web for place that sell spec engines.

I found one which is jspecauto. They want $2k for an engine with manual tyranny which I need since my 5th and 2nd gear syncros are dying.

Has anyone had any experience with them aor are there any other cos someone might recommend looking at?

Japan2LA on the forum is the man you want to talk to. He sells jspec motors and transmissions and has a great reputation. I've bought from him before (not a motor) and have had great experiences.

Why not just have your current engine professionally rebuilt?

i say just rebuild yours...you never know whats inside a jspec motor. funny no matter what condition they all seem to have "30-40k" on them.

take it to IRP and call it a day.

^ That's what I was getting at, I was just going to see if he had a specific reason for wanting a Japanese motor first ^_^

They do have some newer spec parts. I'd rather get a rebuild. At least you now what you are getting. You hear stories about the engines you get that are amazing but thats rare. Besides, if I got a bad engine, I wouldn't want to publicize it so I'm sure no one else would be eager to post about it.

IRP is cant be far from you, dont waste your money on a roll of the dice JSpec. They can gaurantee compression but not how much life the coolant seals have left.

I have had good luck with the Jspec I bought for mine I bought a while back. You never know though, its a crap shoot.

I would rather buy an engine that has been torn apart and has been verified as being a good canidate to rebuild.

Give Karack a message, he rebuilt great engines for a great price. Quality and craftsmanship with great customer service is his priority.

Uleepera,

We built an engine for Specter328, who posted earlier in thread. If you PM him I'm sure he'd be happy to tell you about how his setup has fared on the street and the track

Thanks guys for the referrals.... there are a few good options for rebuilds around the country, and being that the OP is in the NYC tri-state area we'd love the opportunity to get him back on the road

Check the link in my signature for pictures and pricing, and if interested please PM me.

Also there are no warrantys on Jspec engines... you dont know the shelf life..Apex seals can dry up.

And...when I bought a Jspec engine... it arrived.....with poor compression

If anyone cares I did end up going with IRP for a full rebuild and more... in the middle of the project as we speak with hopes to have it completed and tuned intime for spring. So far they are everything that was quoted and then some.

good thing you decided to just get it rebuilt. there's really no way to gaurantee a J-spec is good anymore and even the best importers we had are gone.

best method is to find someone in Japan to break down engines and send them in pieces, of course this requires the engines to be rebuilt upon arrival but i trust any j-spec about as far as i could throw it.
