What gear do you start your car in

1. In the morning cold

and

2. After it's warmed up

For me I usually always start my car in 4th gear, I dunno why but I just do. I've always heard about it's not good to start in 1st so somehow I've just randomly came about to always start in 4th.

What about you?

Why woukd you want ot start the car in gear? If you have a turbo timer you have to leave it in neutral when you shut it down. I start mine in neutral for both. I would love to disable the clutch switch that forces you to push the clutch in to start the car.

I start mines in 1st when it's cold because I don't want it to do that accelerated warm-up thing... neutral in everyother case.

Yeah that auto-warm up thingy is a no for me that's why most start in gear and not in neutral in the morning.

Oh well, just checking around.

I usually start my car in 1st gear, and sometimes in reverse. Just a habit since I have to reverse out of my garage.

Always first. Out of habit from defeating the warm-up system.

You press the clutch when you start in 4th, right? If so, you're not turning the input shaft of your gearbox, so how would 1st be worse than any other gear?

I don't have AWS on my car, so I can start in neutral to spare my release bearing some wear.

I always start my FD is 1st gear. Partly so the AWS won't go on. But then again I disconnected it . I'm paranoid like that. But I've never heard of starting it in 2nd before.

Neutral, just because when its "turbo timing" it stays in neutral and I dont change gears till its started.

Wait a second, what's so bas about AWS (Accelerated Warmup System) ??? It gets the car up to temperature quick and that helps everything since cold apex seals don't seal as well as warm ones do... Most engines are most efficient when at Normal Operating Temperature... so why is AWS bad !???

Start an engine up cold with no oil flowing and go to 3000 rpm, how stupid is that . Many say 50 percent more wear with the aws working .Lighten the load remove it and the hot wax rod with its three water hoses . Less leaks , less things to break.

Me too!!! Nuetral all the time, warm or cold. I let my baby come up to operating temp (or at least let the themostat open, 170) before I even move the car.
