What engine management are you running?

I'm newer to the scene. When I decided to do a single turbo conversion the obvious choice by past experience was the AEM, but the more I look around there doesn't seem to be alot of people that run it. I'm just curious what you guys run, and why you do that over the AEM.

If you aren't running one of the three I put up there what are you running. I'm sure I left some off.

I'm a little biased (PM me if you want more info), but I think the main reason there aren't more RX-7 owners using the AEM is because the PFC is easier to pick up if you're a novice at tuning: the base map works well enough to drive around on, and you simply don't see as much information so there are fewer settings to screw up if you're still "learning the hard way."

If you combine the learning curve of AEM's more powerful software with the poor base map, most people just don't have a chance. I'm finding things like the coil dwell settings were too low at high RPMs, the fuel pump speed-up relay output logic was backwards (which could result in low fuel pressure at high load), and the air & coolant temperature sensor calibrations look wrong as well.

I've heard that people who already know the AEM can make it work well on the RX-7, as long as they know where to start regarding ignition settings. From what I hear, the first RX-7 base maps from AEM were pretty bad. Be sure to verify that the timing settings are correct; this is not easy to do on the RX-7 because there is only one timing mark on the pulley.

I figure I'm half finished with making a map that should work as well as the stock ECU or the basemap on the PFC: I plan to post it on the AEM forums when it's done. In the meantime, I'd love to chat with anyone who's tuned an EMS on other cars: the RX-7 is my first exposure to the EMS.

I have limited experience with the ems, megasquirt, and the pfc. The ems as far as tech specs is concerned is a top notch ecu. The problem as stated earlier is novice "tuners" that dont even know what the terminology means, is that they can damage their engine if they start screwing with things. With higher end ecu's you get a lot more options to tune. This can be a good thing for a veteran tuner. For these reasons the pfc is great for novice tuners or rx7 enthusiasts. But as far as technical specs is concerned it is also a great ecu. The strange thing is that as far as the pfc is concerned, it is a really great ecu for the rx7 in particular. They really out did them selves with that one. I'm really interested in the ems but i dont think i'll run one on an fd simply because the extra cost is not represented with anything regarding driveability or tuneability.

Im running a Electramotive TechGT. I actually hate the powerFC because it just dosen't have the tunning freedom a FD requires. I have seen countless blown motors due to bad tunning.
