What does oil pressure supposed to be,and how you check it?

What does oil pressure supposed to be,and how you check it?
so I assume if you want to check the oil pressure, you put a mechanical gauge where the oil pressure sender is correct? if so what does the oil pressure supposed to be at idel,then at X rpm,etc...
