Question What does this hose do?

Sorry no pics, but I think I can describe it well. It's a large diameter rubber hose that connects to a hard pipe that runs along the firewall, the connection is made on the passenger side, then the hose makes a 180 degree turn and plugs into the Upper Intake Manifold. Is this part of the AWS system? I broke it when I removed my UIM to do the hose job, and am wondering if I can just use regular heater hose to replace it or if I need the OEM part. The OEM piece was very thick and had a lot of insulation. Seemed like overkill.

Gee whiz Billy Bob; I recons if youez was to snake along that metal pipe back in the other directons, youd find it connected to some od shapped balck cuntenare around the break celinder.

That's right man. It supplies vacuum to the brake vacuum assit unit. Any good strong hose will work.

Thank you both for your responses (the sarcasm was appreciated too..), just to clear your worries, I am not driving the car now. I'm in the process of rebuilding it since the completion of my hose job. I'll see what I can get from the local auto parts store that is similar in strength.
