5speed. Now my old 5 speed in what was an automatic car a few weeks ago.
I don't quite get why the car was ever made as an automatic [nor do I get why the Supercharged Nissan Xterra only comes in Automatic

5 speed FD and auto tranny 93 Accord BEAT-TO-HELL daily driver that's soon to be on it's 3rd motor! (yes, I've killed two honda motors in less than 2 years) This time however it's getting a little power increase, 90hp increase to be exact! I treat this thing like the p.o.s. it is...the soon to be 220hp p.o.s. it is, haha. Seriously, why would I pay $2k-$3k for a new tranny if I can get a new motor with tons more power for nearly half the price?! God I love my beater

Automatic here. Ain't that big of a deal. 99% of the time you aren't even going to use the advantages of the manual. A properly used FD automatic is not much different than a manual, the biggest difference comes at the "launch", and their ain't nothing quite like having a clutch and manual tranny there.
I've owned 19 cars in my life, 11 of them were manual and 8 have been automatic, and they have been a mix of sports cars, sports sedans, pickups, full size luxury cars, etc.
Yeah, the FD is best suited for a 5 speed, no doubt about it. But the automatic ain't that big of a compromise most of the time. And the dude driving alongside you admiring your car doesn't have a clue nor care, all he sees is the beautiful, timeless lines of the 3rd gen RX-7!

93 RX-7 with a 5-speed
90 Integra (beater daily driver) with a 5-speed and sticky tires (which actually make it entertaining to drive even though the motor and suspension are stock)
I occasionally think it might be nice to have an automatic for commuting, but when I really think seriously about a replacement for the daily driver, I still want a stick. Maybe some kind of manumatic would work, but that doesn't seem all that attractive to me, either. This may sound crazy, but a stick seems easier to operate in the heat of driving -- just grab the stick and put it into the gear you want with the accompanying foot action. The gear selector on automatics seems more tricky to get into the gear you want - the action is more subtle. Perhaps the manumatics with sequential-style controls would be a different story, but I haven't tried one of those.
I have driven a CVT car and it was interesting. I believe in the idea in theory, but they sound weird and deprive the driver of the engine noises that accompany acceleration. It seems like the general "looseness" of the gas pedal to acceleration might be annoying on corner exit, too. I've never tried a fast corner with a CVT, though, so I'm not sure if that is the case. I am sure different CVTs have at least slightly different feels, too.
