Smile What did you waste your money on?

I'm at work all bored so here is a thread to keep people like me entertained at work.

List any parts that you bought for your FD which wasn't worth the money, or you totally regret of buying.

I've bought a set of aftermarket toelinks. I bought it because I thought that would fix my knocking sound which was comming from the rear but, it did not fix that problem. Waste of $200 since I do not race and its only a daily driver.

Turbo timer....I don't use that thing anymore.

1000miles only?...hope my mazda reman. will last. I have 200miles on them. wish me luck..lol

$1500+ for a turbo back 3.5" exhaust system. It sounds great, seems to flow fine, but was unnecessary for my hp goals.

$1500 for a PowerFC and a Datalogit. Considering my mods (or lack thereof), I just didn't need either one so I sold them both at a small loss. Also, a set of Fikse FM/5 wheels. To most people they're wheels to die for, but to me, they didn't just look right on a white car so I sold those too at less than what I paid for them. And I also bought a Tri-Power dual gauge dash pod I ended up not needing. Anyone want it? It's brand new. I'll sell for less than what I paid for it at the RX-7 Store.

$61 in silicone vacuum hose. Realized boost leak had nothing to do with vaccuum lines.

5spd swap... although I havent done the swap yet... I'm sure once the parts are in I'll feel better about the 1700+ I have spent on it.

I also feel like I wasted the cash on the midpipe since I wont be able to use it for some time.

One thing I've realized over the years is there's no such thing as buying something once. You end up upgrading it - I can't tell you how many times some new thing came out that was so dope, and I could justify the expense by selling the old part off.

I've been through at least 5-6 different boost gauges...

None of the money I've ever spent on cars I've regretted. I've paid some money for dumb lessons, but I learned something in the process.

It's just not a cheap hobby by any stretch of the imagination. But, at least it's cheaper than, say, racing airplanes .

Turbo Timer, never installed it. But that was only $65.

OEM Mazda air filters. I bought 2 of them shortly after getting the car. The first one went in the stock airbox for about 500 miles. Then I bought a K&N. I still have them both if anyone wants to make me an offer

I didn't buy a turbo timer, but I bet there are lots of people with them who should be posting on this thread

My car had a turbo timer installed in it (it was a very clean and professional install...at least that was a positive), so I can't say that I wasted money on it directly.

I'm a relatively new FD owner (about 7 months now) and I can honestly say that spending some time here lurking before I bought my car made me more aware about what NOT to buy.

AEM C2DI, worst purchase ever. Secondly would be the Defi A/F gauge that sits in the car unconnected. Thirdly would be buying Platinum spark plugs only to replace them 1000 miles later with racing plugs.

thats why im trying not to buy anythign that i'm not keeping. wheels? not changing my fugly powdercoated stock wheels until im ready to actually get REAL WHEELS.

my autometer gauges are complete ***. yanni wasted his money on those and now i have to get defi to replace them.

but yeah the car and everything related to it is a waste of money. but its fun... and having the ability to fly after driving the corolla for hours is amazing.

RX-7Addict: Any pics of your car with RB springs on it?

zipman71: Water-cooled turbos (such as ours) have all but eliminated the need for a turbo timer. Look at any water-cooled turbo with any kind of age on it and you will see that you will almost never see one where the shaft has seized from oil coking. That IS a problem on oil-only cooled turbos that led to widespread use of turbo timers.
