What controls transition point
I checked the pressure sensor. It gives the correct voltage under vacuum, but under boost it gives voltages about 15% lower than the bottom of the range specified in the shop manual. This would be normal if the pressure sensor measures pressure relative to a fixed sea level atmospheric pressure (like an altimeter in a plane) instead of relative to local atmospheric pressure (like a normal boost gauge). Does anyone know how the pressure sensor works? Does it use some kind of Bourdon tube, or something else?
Are new pressure sensors expensive? If they are not then I might just buy a new one and compare.
Anyone at altitude who feels like testing their pressure sensor (page F-181 in shop manual - very easy), I'd love to see the results.
Also, I found out how to check the TPS without the SST (http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/TPS_adjustment.html), so I'll be doing that ASAP.
