From what I have read it seems that alot of 3rd gen guy like act. One of the best local shops around here seems to thing otherwise, they will not install an act clutch in anything! I dont understand this, so i figured i would ask around.

Tell us what clutch you are runnig.
why you chose that clutch.
and how well do you like it?

ACT street/strip on a street-driven-only car for about 6k miles. I bought it after doing a search here on the forum and finding mostly good reviews, even from those tracking their cars. I Like it. Just a bit stiffer than OEM but no complaints.

I like Spec 4 puck sprung hub. Why I went with it? I needed a clutch bad and I was at the RX-7 Store and Jason recommeded beside being the only one they had in stock with a 4-6 puck sprung hub. I had it on my old FD and I'm getting another one for my current FD. I love the pedal feel because is not to hard but it gets the job done.

ACT Xtreme PP with S/S disc. Just wanted as much clamping force as possible from the preasure plate so i could get away with using a "civilized" disc. So far its held up quite nicely on the street, but will be giong to the strip lets see...
Feels good, not too much effort. recomend it.
Trying a puck disc next

Exedy Twin. Still streetable=slipable to a level. Holds like no other. Pedal feels just barely harder than stock.

ACT street/strip, great grip for mid level power mods. Good quality, easy on flywheel and very streetable.

ACT Street/Strip-works great, I can't complain, no problems yet, its more grippy then the old one, but that seems reasonable considering it has more clamping force. Driving in traffic isn't a problem, I'm not making a whole lotta power but here are the mods: street port, downpipe, intake, cat back, profec B running 10.5-11 psi. No dyno so I can't claim any numbers, but its a great clutch in my opinion and less expensive then some of its competitors. Josh

rx7.com's Bonez street/strip (which is a rebadged ACT). Witnessed it holding up for many miles on several high powered FD's while living in Dallas. I have had it for about 40,000 mi. and am very pleased - will buy another when the time comes.

I agree with the street/strip sentiment. This FD was my first MT car. I went through the stock clutch pretty fast. My mechanic (Jose Hernandez-PNC Autoworks) recomended I get the ACT. I've had it about a year now no complaints whatsoever.

Does the Exedy twin change the clutch from pull type to push type?

Also I run the OS Giken twin plate clutch (B type).

Exclamation

There are many types of applications for a clutch for an FD, it really comes down to the type of driving and mods you currently have or will install in the future. Listing your mods will help us determine the type of clutch which would work best for your application.

I currently have the ACT street/strip clutch, which works great. It's very comfortable to drive in traffic and feels almost like the stock pedal feel. I had it on my FD for 4 years and would recommend this clutch for lightly modded FD.

I'll replace the ACT with the Exedy Triple Plate in the spring, which cost $1800 Also, make sure to replace your clutch fork, which only cost a few dollars from the Mazda Dealership.

RPS street disc with a sport hub.

Holds an awesome amount of power while maintaining great streetability. Great for spirited street driving. It's also fairly priced.

Had it on for about 2.5 years now and never had a problem.

Depends on which one you're talking about.

The stock replacement clutch (made by Exedy) is actually DIRT cheap... $235.04 to be exact. That includes the pressure plate, disc, release bearing, pilot bearing, and pilot bearing seal. Can't beat that IMO, if you're bone stock. http://www.mazdaformance.com/Merchan...egory_Code=480

Now Exedy also makes twin disc clutches, which logically would be considerably more than a single disc clutch

I'm personally running an ACT S/S HD clutch, and I love it. Much heavier than stock (I like the feel of a heavy pedal), and takes one hell of a beating. When I do upgrade, however, I'm gonna be going w/ a twin clutch cuz I'm gonna be running a lot more torque at that point.

The Exedy twin-disc clutches come with a flywheel, which is why they are so expensive.

Isn't the reason why some ppl complain of them chattering is because some ppl get them w/o the flywheel, and use a diff (cheaper) one?

Translation; I made the right purchase for my driving style. Not overkill like a twin clutch .

Oh, but I guess all the extra torque you're gonna be making (because these cars are known for that) will justify it right?
