Cool What cars give us the most trouble?

What would be our main competition out of the domestic and import world? What are your bitter rivals, and basically where do you think the FD or you stand on the food chain?

First up, for me it would be those pesky, new VW turbocharged GTI's. My friend has one that admitadly move's surprisngly fast with his few mods. Not only in a straight line, but in the curves too. Bad part is this fool has got to be dealt with because no matter how many times I break down rotary engine design to him, he thinks and I quote: "rotary engines by design always blow up after 60-80K miles." This along with the new M3's, Z06's, and of course the TT Supra, can be a pain in the ***. Then there is the worst of all, a street legal 700rwhp 10sec. 5.0 mustang with a middle aged owner who sports a mullet. Worse yet he won't stop calling 7's among other performance imports garbage, just because he's beaten stock/near stock ones. On top of that he disses the rotary engine too and calls it a torqueless POS I wish someone would come to M.D. and destroy him because it's getting rediculous It's gotten to the point where my buds and I would pay money to see someone, preferbly in a FD, shut this guy up. Well that's my .07 so post your rivals and troubles.

i have to say that i just love to hand it to one of the many V8 guys. whether it is a 5.0, GT, Cobra, Trans Am, Z28, SS. i used to be one of those VW guys but then i totaled my car and so i bought a FD. but probably the best race to win is against a modded supra. that is my one goal for this car.

It just depends on what's done to it. Right now, my cobra would spank my FD. However, once the FD gets running right it will **** all over the cobra. As far as overally performance goes, there really isn't much that can both outhandle and out accelerate the FD for the money.

The V8 guys deserve punishing the most. Mainly because most of them consider ANYTHING imported to be rice. Those and riced honduhs, are just big targets. Oh, and damn straight they better believe few affordable cars can outperform an FD. Modena's, 911tt's, and Lamborghini's just don't count Has anyone had any encounter's with the NSX? I don't think I've ever seen anything on the forum about them giving any sort of trouble. Only thing super about it is the pricetag. 80,000 for a honduh.

I've beaten a couple of NSX's. I totally spanked one in a street drag, and then barely beat one at New England dragway. They are nice cars.
The only V8 guys that really show me disrespect are the older guys with the real classic muscle cars. They just don't know any better. I had one guy in a beautifull 70's Mustang Mach one call my 7 a Toyota and said he didn't like any of the imports. He then proceeded to say that they had no *****. I worked it so I could stage next to him, and proceeded to hand him such an *** whippin that he didn't run again that night.
The obvious problems for us have already been mentioned. These are Z06's, Vipers, 911 turbos, and Supras, and actually, these guys are all very cool to me. Of course anything can be modded to be fast, but those are the typical culprits. If a 7 is closer to stock, you must beware the Camaros and Firebirds, and Cobras as well.
A good running modded FD doesn't really have to worry about getting spanked. I've tied a bunch of times, even lost a few times, but i've only been spanked twice. Once by a Hennessy Viper and once by a RUF. They both kicked my *** really hard. I'll take that win ratio any day though.

Naw, you Rotary guys are alright. IMO, most of you are gearheads just like us. You just enjoy rebuilds more than we do. Or is it you just get more practice?

Me? I love running down LS1's. It's usually a VERY good race. But sometimes I get smoked. The 02LS1's are NO JOKE.

Yeah, we're all just gearheads in the end, but bitter rivalries make it all the more sweeter.

z06, 911, viper yes....supra, ummm no. I still have a perfect 3-0 record against supras, and i'm mostly stock. I don't know, they're just not that bad *** to me...car has been hyped to it's death. Biggest pain to me is the z06, amazingly fast, great handling...and an arrogant driver.

I've lost to an NSX the 2nd week i got the car when i didn't know how to drive...lost by half a car and it was done off a 1st gear roll.

My friend has a brand new GTI with an APR chip and I pull on him at will, but his 5 valves per cylinder has POTENTIAL.

I'd have to say the biggest fear I have is running into a hon-duh. A built hatch that's sporting a crv block with a type r head...11.8 at 3k elevation. To top it off, the agony you feel when you just realized you lost to a civic. Hasn't happened to me, but has happened to lots of blower v8's

honestly, if a honda beats me, i do feel a bit bad, but in the end, it's a honda. no matter how much faster a honda is...in the end, it's not a better car because of that.

Oddly enough, i have to add cars like the M5, SL55, E55 and the DB7 as cars that will give you a handfull.

I never really feared Honda's til I got my *** handed to me by a early 90's Civic Hatch with some B22 motor and NOS. Found out after the race he runs high 10's

You had best to watch out for the WRX's if they have alot of mods. Especially if they are running an 1818 or 1820 turbo and tuned right. Those are amazingly fast for how heavy they are. That AWD system rocks! But doesn't look near as good as the FD's. Not to mention that you had best have lots of money to make a Subaru run with us!!

I was dead even with a NSX that was spraying from a roll. 2nd run no spray and I walked away. This was before alot of my mods.

I beat a late 90's Z28 on drag radials and spray at the track when I was running 8psi. I have video of that.

I pulled on a GT mustang from 30-80mph on 6psi last weekend at the beach on the fresh non sequential setup. He was suprised as ****.

Cool racing in the domestic lane...

you know how you go to the local drag strips? Sacramento Raceway for example? There's a lane for domestics, slick, rearwheel drive, IMPORTS, bikes, etc.?

The best way for me to really show other cars (domestics) up is to race against ALL of them in one night. So what do I do, race in the domestic lanes. I'm racing all types of mustangs, corvettes, gto's, etc. Your confidence level goes up when your 7 is doing low 12's to high 11's. Once you're out there and showing these domestics what your car is really capable of doing, you'll get a lot of respect both there and on the street, 'cause they remember you. On the street, people pull up beside you(thinking they want to race) but instead they're complementing you. That's all I want, respect and recognition, but the best way to get it is on the track, it's legit.

Anyways goodluck, be carefull, and have fun, oh and KICK SOME OF THEM OTHER CARS' BUTTTTEEE!!!!!!

see ya,

wrx's are suprisingly fast. i saw a wrx wagon run a 12.3 at 112 last week, with what looked like a bad launch. raced one with a bigger turbo, fmic etc and we were dead even from 30-80, i thought for sure i'd beat him from a roll.

Anything with AWD and enough torque is going to be a challenge off the line. I'm actually surprised the WRX came up though, because around here you rarely see people modding them. From what I've witnessed it's mostly been late model mustangs, and other V8's that cause the trouble. Sleepers just raise havok. Maxima's with tuned V8's, 60's supercharged pickups, and yes...even the occasional Accord with prelude engine+racing tranny swap. I rarely if ever see the M5, SL55, E55 and the DB7 enough to even mention them. Is the DB7 even sold in the U.S?

To the person who said that the supra is mostly hype, I would agree with you that alot of it is, (just like the skyline) but it doesn't come from nowhere. Those things move, and from a roll they are deadly. Even an automatic supra TT can beat you(stock for stock) if your not careful. Once they start pushing bpu and above, the performance more than backs the hype.
