What is the best way to install a fan on the M2 Med IC?
How should I mount the perma-cool fan on my intercooler? I have the M2 Medium. Thanks in advance for the help. Oh yeah, pics would be great.
You know how the angle brackets normally go like this (the L is the bracket in my ASCII art):
|FAN|L
I turned them so that they angle into the fan (flip the L in the pic so the bottom part goes toward the left instead of the right). You'll have to cut them a little to avoid interference with the fan (I just cut them along the circle pattern of the fan shroud with a Dremel cut-off wheel). And you'll also have to clip the corners off the "zip clip" square thingies that hold the fan to the IC core. Mount the fan as far toward the driver's side of the core as you can, and flush with the top of the core. The last mod is to bend the shroud a bit to make room for the radiator hose, including a little extra room for the engine to bounce around. I wish that I had added a little rubber weather stripping (perhaps from mcmaster.com or even some weather seal from the auto parts store) around the fan shroud so that it would seal better against the IC core.
I have it wired up to turn on when I have the AC on. I originally intended for it to turn on whenever any of the radiator fans turned on (or more precisely, at any fan speed), but that didn't work as I expected.
