well i bought some 99 spec tails from ebay

and they suck.

the RH side assembly has been (re?)painted black around the sides, and theres overspray all over the back of it and paint running into the grooves where it shouldn't be. the texture of the paint is lumpy like a spraycan job. a little too obvious. WHY is the guy selling PAINTED lights.

i see countless gouges and chips in the plastic on all 3 sections. I'm sending these back and demanding a full refund. the lights are nothing like what was adverstized and they were described as "great condition, no cracks/breaks" and he ensured me via email that the condition was as good as he said.

anyway, lesson learned don't buy parts from japanese exporters on ebay. It wasn't cheap either, but i bought anyways since it came with the center section(completely &*(@#$ up condition btw)

This was a bit rude...! Anyway, I do agree with converting your existing lights. Why pay all that money for the JDM ones? I mean, they are painted also but with a different texture paint. I know 'cause I pull them apart all the time.

Bring your old stock lights down to me with $50 and I will convert them in less than a couple hours. Unless you bring a 12 pack, maybe 3-4 hours

Now that i think about it, why dont you drop the sellers name so others may be able to avoid the same mistake.

That is why reading the seller's feedback is so important.

You can get some good stuff from the guys here on the forum the import from japan there is also wheelchoice which is a few blocks from Mazdatrix and you can llok at the stuff at his shop before you buy as well as ask him to get it for you. SOme of the '99+ wings on ebay are China or taiwan copies.

You should post a link to the auction and/or seller.

I am curious to who this was as well. I had the exact same experience, bought JDM tails from a JDM exporter through a dude in the uS and got lights that were scratched the funk up! Nothing close to being advertised as "near perfect."

Sevensix, if you want to keep the lights, send them to me. I will take out the scratches and buff to bring them back to original.

anyone interested can pm and i'll be happy to, other than that i'll drop a name after this is resolved, the guy is being cooperative, he offered a full refund + cost of return shipping ~$60.

its tempting. i considered doing it myself, but there are a few DEEP scratches and missing chunks off the edges. im doubtful that the painted housing will have a good surface underneath, there HAS to be a reason it was painted over. thanks for the offer

I am in Irvine to Dana Point area. I have honestly done only 4 sets, but they all came out outstanding IMO. Its not rocket science by any means. I actually have a set already painted, they just need to go in. PM me if you want pics. Pretty much just for the local guys who wanna chat or drop it off and pick later.
