Unhappy Well . . . CRAP! . . . I did cut the wrong one!

I have been yammering about my little problem with my starter lately and now's time for more.

I cut the damned wire to the oil pressure sending unit!

Hell, with the tape and the plastic shell, I couldn't tell! Besides, why did Mazda put the damned thing in the wiring harnass branch that is for the starter. I mean, just because it is close to the sensor . . . !

Excuses . . . excuses . . .

I found the wire that was originally connected to the starter. It is on the section of the wiring harness that goes to the tranny. I had pushed it up out of my way so I could get my hands in the small space around the starter.

This must have been a production change. I cannot find the wire on any of the diagrams. It is red and of somewhat heavier guage than the original black/red wire from the common connector that is shown to be the one on the wiring diagram.

I am gonna check it one last time before I am done working on this problem. I think I'll put the interior back together today. I just don't feel like getting greasy.

I have fixed the oil sensor wire with yet another butt splice and plenty of black tape. Looks almost like stock!

Something I did find that I CAN be sure about is the ground strap to the engine is loose. I am gonna fix this problem by installing a bolt with a fiberlock nut so it can't loosen again.

It occurs to me that this may be the cause of several problems I have experienced over time that are intermittent.

Rough idle
Loss of engine power
Oil sending unit works but reads low most of the time
(it seeks ground. if the ground is weak, the reading
will be low)
Starter won't turn . . . (current problem)

You can easily imagine a whole litany of others I'm sure.

Now, can anybody tell me what the original routing of the wiring harnass is!

I am sure that the way it was installed is incorrect.

Barry
