Question Weird thumping noise coming from right rear when going over bumps.

I'm getting a thumping noise when going over bumps that sounds like it's coming from the right rear wheel or suspension. It only seems to happen when the bumps are fairly large. I have noticed no other symtoms. Any ideas what it might be?

Bushings....bushings....bushings......a common problem on the FD, the stock rubber ones get hard with age and tend to deteriorate, I have the same clunking noise in mine(although only during the hot days of summer) and had the same problem with my Prelude too......

M2 sells a trailing arm kit that replaces it with metal arms...

It's $190 for the trailing arms and $200+ for the toe-in kit.....I think the trailing arms would do the job though...or you could get in a group buy for bushings when it comes back around....

Thanks. Is it bad for the car in any way to be driving it when I have this problem?

Well, it's not like your car will explode....and I don't think your axle would fall off or anything....really the only thing that suffers a lot is your acceleration, you will get excessive wheel hop and that will, in turn damage your suspension...but you should take a look sometime and see if that's what's wrong....

I'm not sure where the bushings are though, I've never looked....but I know it's the next thing on my list, M2 trailing arms, I just wanna be safe.....

check in the rear hatch where the jack is, check to see if the tire stopper is screw down tight. It will make some noise if it's loose.

Pettit sells replacements for the busings if that s what it turns out to be. www.pettitracing.com I don't know if that is something that you may be interested in, but they have them if you need them. I had the same thing in the rear of my car, but once I bought the replacement pettit ones, it went away.

When I got your post I went out to go look if this was the problem but unfortunately it's not. Sounds like it is probably the bushings.

Is there any way that the M2 trailing arm kit could adversely affect the car's handling?
