Weird squeeking noise coming out of 1st

I have an ACT 6puck sprung clutch and a RacingBeat lightweight flywheel. Whenever I try to ease into 1st, so the car does jolt and surge, it makes this really bizarre squeeking noise. Almost like a bolt backing out or something. I checked for anything loose and there's nothing. It did this on my previous Spec clutch with the same flywheel, but not as bad (and when i was replacing it with my act I checked everything once over and found no signs of loose bolts). Is this just related to the flywheel itself? Maybe the bolts shaking around that hold the clutch to the flywheel (they are actually a bolt and a nut. its a cleanly drilled hole through the flywheel. Some weird RB thing)?

when you changed youre clutch over did you apply pressure to the flywheel during the changeover? There are a number of pressure bearings that are on either end of the E- shaft that require pressure to stay in place, if not then they can slip down and become mis-alighned which will cause them squeak when slowley shifting from stop into 1st gear ( I bet you dont hear it in other gears once your moving??)

I has this problem when I got my clutch done, it has a real bad high pitched squeak whenever I took off from stop into 1st gear, eventually the bearing inside wore down bad enough for the E-shaft to get too much end-play and the main drive pulley started hitting my ignition pickup s behind it and cutting my engine out ( not to mention stuffing my pickups).

Thats all I can guess is going on , do a search on thrust bearings , endplay etcand I'm sure there is a writeup with pics about this very issue.

Good luck

****, I dont here it in any other gears. Only first. Damnit. That is mighty unfortunate. Well, my motor is making bad compression anyways and I intend to rebuild it end of august (when I return to my apt with all my tools, garage, and spare motor).

Mine isnt real loud. In fact, if i rev the engine up to about 3k and play with the throttle as I engage the clutch it wont make the noise at all. Its only if I ease it in. Its not high pitched. Just sounds metal on metal and squeeky. Im not sure if I applied pressure to the flywheel or not, but I can imagine I could have. But the fact that its only making it in first gear like you guessed is what's scaring me. About how many miles did you make it dealing with the squeek before it did damage? Ive gone about 2k. I figure another 2k before I will have the new engine in it.

There are no bearings that can move when changing the clutch. You must be refering to the bearings and spacers at the front of the motor. The rb 6 puck is a chattery clutch. I ran one for a while. It does grab good though. I'd get under the car and look through thge inspection plate if you can see anything. Make sure all the bolts are tight. Check that the slave is lined up with the indent in the clutch fork. Hows your flywheel? Most 6 pucks are pretty hard on the friction surface of the flywheel. If all else fails you might have to drop the tranny and take a look but this isn't by any means a smooth engaging clutch.

I replaced the flywheel when I first changed the clutch. I dont think I really hit it or anything though. The old one came off pretty effortlessly and the new one slid right on. And let me emphasize, its not that bad. Its not real high pitched, just sounds like what Id hear if, say, a bolt was backing out of an aluminum plate. Really bizarre. But I checked for anything when I had the spec clutch and when I was replacing it and found nothing. And if I turn my radio up to volume 10 (out of 50) I cant hear the squeek anymore. Thats just loud enough to drone out the idle (i have a resonated midpipe and rb catback).

Still, Id like to know how many miles spekda went before it really did some damage. Im getting ready to rebuild the old motor but Im hoping this wont be a serious issue for the next couple thousand miles.
