weird problem... car isn't reving up under load... acts like bad ignition?
Hi guys!
I'm going to buy a 93 fd from a good frind of mine... he got this car just a few weeks ago from japan but he has to give it away because he wants to concentrate on his r32gtr drag car and on his r33gts-t drift car
good for me...
the car is in very good condition (interieur and exterieur)... it has 106.000km on the clock, is nearly stock (only a HKS Dragger catback and intakes, nice white wheels, type-R spoiler and nice side-skirts, TEIN suspension) and he will sell the car to me for ~6000euros (~9 - 10.000 Dollar)
the only problem is: it does not run right!
We've done a compression test... our gauge was a little bit shitty... the needle jumped to nearly 30psi compression at the front while starting the car without oil in the combustion chambers ... on the rear we got no readings because we cannot connect the compression tester so that it will seal against the housing...
but you hear a constant noise from the compression...
weird thing: the rear definitly do not sound like the front... but it definitly has compression on all 3 chambers! could it be low compression on the rear rotor or is this because the car was flodded so that there is completely no oil in the rear housing to help build up compression?
the car starts just fine, no smoke anywhere, IDLE's constant and does not have air bubbles in the cooling system... so the engine dont shakes around...
so i think there would be no problem with the coolant seals, apex seals and oil control rings right?
now the problem: the car just want rev like it should... it goes max. 40mph and just do not want go faster!
we've disconnected one of the ignition coils (don't remember if leading or trailing) and the car doesnt react... just runs like before...
is it possible that the leading coils are dead?
will a rotary IDLE fine but don't ref up if there is no spark at leading or trailing?
i know i have to check the coils per FSM, but just want to know if this is possible or are there other possibilitys for this symptoms?
thx guys

I would start by checking the engine codes. Most of the non-USA cars don't have a Check Engine Light on the dash. Check this thread:

If there is a code stored, it might have the car in limp mode which would make the symptoms very similar to what you described.
