weather was great today got the engine out

Well after 2 weekends being killed off by back to back typhoons, the weather was nice. so I headed to the shop and went to work pulling the engine and trans out of the Project FD3S.

Took about 4 hours to do it. 1st time I have ever done a FD. plus I did it all by myself. the hardest part was powerplant subframe who ever had the car before me didn put the bolt lock on top of the trans. so after some riggin I got the bolts off.

turns out the car has Mazda Speed powerplant subframe and HKS twin plate.

I must say that the FD oil cooler lines rock!! just remove a snap ring and they come apart.

and I had trouble with motor mounts so I ended up unbolting all the mount bolts to the motor to get it out. I got a feeling it going to be hell to put back in.

anyway here is a few pics.

http://project-fd3s.cyberosity.com/g...e-engine-today

tomorrow Im going to bust it apart

if there is an easyer way to do the motor mounts let me know

had this been a FC I could have had it out of the car in about 45min by myself

Nice Job, can't wait to see the finished project. Are you going to paint the engine bay while the engine is out? I hope so....

not sure it was on the car when I got it. Tomorrow when I break it apart I will see if I can find a tag or something on it.

Not a bad FD for $454 :P

The car is a 94 Type R. Im not sure whats up with the DP. but it had a really small cat that is toast when I pulled off the cat / cat back a goo like melded silly puddy or like how jb weld looks before it sets up poored out of the pipe.

The owner before had over heated it and killed it. sat in his yard for about 6month and his wife said its gotta go. so I picked it up for 50000 yen ~ $454 at the time.

Something I've done now on three different installs was to place the mounts in the frame and then bolt them to the motor after it's back in the car. I don't remove the tranny so it's next to impossible to line up the input shaft with the motor with the motor mounts on the motor (even with the trans up against the tunnel.) There is plenty of room to put the blots in and tighten them up without lowering the engine frame.
