Weak secondary kickin sometimes

Sometimes my turbos are not kicking in as strong. It holds 10psi but power seems to be less.
I always suspected this but now with new intercooler i can definitly feel the difference. when secondary engages at full power the car gains terrific acceleration. This should be something vacuum related right? I had the UIM off and all suspicious vacuum hoses replaced. where should i start checking?

It is obvious that something is wrong with the turbo control system.

Two choices:
(1) take it to a GOOD FD mechanic
(2) go non-seq

There were problems with my sequential when i got my car but despite of being newby at that time, i managed to find the problem myself after about a week of researching and working.
Boost gauge reads normal boost. its not low, but acceleration is different sometimes for some reasons. Plugs, wires, O2 sensor, filters, oils, everything is changed. can weak fuel pump cause this type of problem?

PS: there are no FD mechanics in my country so i do all the job myself

First of all i knw exactly how u feel with the whole no FD mechanics cuz there arent any in my country either...neway ur getting the boost u shud be getting but not the required power so id say clean/replace the fuel filter to start with then check the fp and plugs...cheers

Maybe your secondary isn't kicking in all the time?

this would explain why you boost okay.

"Boost gauge reads normal boost."

"Normal" isn't enough information. What is the value below 4000, 4000-4500, and above 4500? At what RPM are you losing power, and does the boost change at all when this happens?

If this were occurring you would see it on the boost gauge.

Maybe the OP isn't aware of the 10-8-10 pattern since his description of "boost" is so broad. He mentioned that he is pretty new to the car.

Could also be that the bearings are gone, mine still held stock boost, but the volume of air was diminished due to a sometimes stuck secondary wheel. All depended on heat of air, temperament of the car... weather it'd boost normally or act weird.

yes i have this car only for 6 months but i'm not a complete newby already. boost pattern is good, maybe a bit high on primary. when secondary kicks in its 10psi

sickboy2345
if its a boost leak why the car has power sometimes and sometimes it does not? I cant understand where it could be leaking from. i checked almost everythig and boost is normal too.

ok so u got boost gauge right? just check ur boost gauge when the boost is weak, if ur boost gauge shows less then 10 (my one does 5 when secondary turbo kicks in) then you have a boost leak

go through this:

http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-7/rx7stuff.htm

you have everything explained mate.

So if you boost is a solid 10psi and you're getting a loss of power, it's time to look for fuel and spark. Can you get a wideband AFR to check your fuel?

yeah, i have a wideband O2 sensor (not installed thoug) but not the gauge itself. i could borrow it from a friend but wouldnt it be wiser to check fuel pump pressure first?
