Cool water temprature gauge + PFC

hi guys just another quick one,,, ive got round to plumbing in my water temprature gauge at last after having the gauge sat in my car for the last 6 months,,, i decided to 'T' into the throttle water line near the bulk head. Alls great gauge works fine but ive noticed that when the water temprature gauge reaches 95 degrees the fans come on, from reading the manual it says about 105 degrees????? (so is my gauge reading wrong,,,i would like it to read accurate),,
Now i havent got around to plugging in my power FC yet as i would like to take it to a tuner and have them tune it at the same time,,,, the power FC has a temprature reading aswell,,
What im wanting to know is has anyone else got there gauge plumbed into the throttle line and a power FC plugged in,,, both temprature readings are from different areas and is there a difference,,,
Maybe where the power FC takes temprature,,, thermohousing the temprature is 105 degrees and where i have my gauge it really is 95 degrees,,,
im just trying to find out if my gauge is wrong?

The power FC takes its reading from the hottest part of the cooling system on the FD. At the stat housing which is just before the rad.

I put my temp gauge in the stat housing.

Is your power fc box fresh ?

It could be you are reading it from a cooler part of the engine. Also the power fc has 3 settings for the fans. Low speed, high speed and AC.

right thats what i thought,,,,, the power FC takes it reading from the stat housing ,, so i suspect the temprature difference im seeing is pobably normal and fine,,, say fans turn on at 103 degrees im reading about 97 on throttle coolant line,,,,so is probably the difference of areas,,,,,,,
yer the power FC is fresh,,, dont worry though i know what your thinking-> plug it in , has base safe map yes?
well when i first bought it 6 months ago .. i plugged it in fixed idle with a few tweaks but then noticed i was getting 200+ on knock value,,,, and i kept hearing what sounded lke a pinging from the downpipe??? scared me enough to remove as i had just rebuilt the engine

If the fans are coming in then i would be happy. Some people get all **** about the fans. They are part of the normal function of the car. Some would have you think that the fans are telling you that the car is about to die LOL LOL.

I ran my car on a slighly modded base map for a year. This included trips down the strip etc. 200 knock would tend to worry me LOL.

Who are you going to use to map it ?

My Greddy temp gauge and PowerFC temp readout on the commander match within a few degrees max - they're usually dead on with each other. Do you have a commander?

Also, what year is your car? The later Japanese or UK cars might have a different fan control setup from the US 93-95 cars.

Or, some previous owner could have upgraded the fan thermoswitch already. The FC thermoswitch mod has been known about for some time in Japan - that's where I got the idea, from an RX-7 Magazine.

PIP is very good his company is WGT in northwich i think. It depends where you are located really.

Mine was fine. i had no problems. May be the map was corrupted. You can reset it on the commandor. The base map is safe for a stock port stock seq twin with breathing mods. ie intake, de cat etc.

The jap cars i think are the same as the us ones as far as the power fc goes. I think the us cars have to cut out the egr i think. Fan temps are

Fan 1 95 deg
Fan 1 A/C 100 deg
Fan 2 105 deg

i think these are the same on all the base maps. When you have it mapped get them changed to lower temps.

If you are in the south i can put you in touch with a top guy who can sort the map for you.

Cool. If that fails. then mail me @ sdminus@yahoo.co.uk. I will stick a map in it for you so you can drive it to be tuned.
