Water Temp Sensor Install on Diff Wtr Filler Neck???

I put a new reman engine in my car recently. A lot of new parts were on it, and I got lucky. Anyway, the Water Filler Neck is different than my old one and all the other FDs I have seen. It's all one piece.
I am installing a Defi Water Temp Gauge and need to get the sensor in the filler neck somehow. There is an allen bolt on the left side of the filler neck, I'm thinking if I remove this bolt, that I can install the sensor there. What is this bolt for? No way it's holding the filler neck onto anything. Thanks for the help.

just remove the thermo neck ---3 , 10mm bolts...then drill and tap the housing like on rob rionetti's site, it will give you better readings since the thermosensor is in the direct coolant flow

Not sure if there are other types but mine is one piece. The allen bolt is just a plug, when you purchase a water temp gauge the sensors have adaptors that fits that hole perfectly. I have my sensor installed there and it works well. Good luck.

Do not pu the sensor probe in the plug. The sensor will reside in a small closed off chamber with stagnant coolant in it, where no direct coolant flow can attain the probe. If you remove the housing you will see how this location would probably cause severely lagged readings on you gauge.

You will have to tap in the area below that plug on the passenger side face of the housing in order to have it sit in flowing coolant.

If you need a picture... email me. rx7@rocketship.com
