Lightbulb Water To Air Intercooler

I was looking into upgrading the intercooler I currently have the stock mount. I don't want a FMIC. I see no reason to put something in front of the radiator.

I have made several intercoolers for other cars but none for the FDs. I plan to make this one also.
The thought I have been toying with, is an air to water intercooler. This way it can be similar in size (but larger) and location to the stock intercooler. It'll never become an inter heater being located there, and since I have a touring, I can cool the water using the stock right side location for an oil cooler.
I plan to retain the sequential twin turbo setup.

what do you all think?
does anyone have some pictures of a setup like this?

There seem to be many advantages in doing it like this. The only dissadvantage, making it all work reliably, is one Ill enjoy the challenge of.
I plan to run the car on the track and street. Little to No drag duty.

please give me some input.

I'd just get a good SMIC with a fan on the back to battle heat soak. The bad thing about water is it retains heat worse than air so if it does get heat soaked it will take forever to cool back down. I know water is harder to heat soak than air but it will still soak at stop lights, when when you park at the store, ect....

Its worth a try but I'd hate to spend all that time and money and not get the benifit your hoping for.

A GOOD smic with a fan works great!!!

Later,
STEPHEN

Please, go for it. People use them on other turbo cars with great success. I'd love to see how it works on an FD. Shouldn't cost much to build it but it would take some effort, more than I have to spare.

after reading about them on the spearco site, the gains are questionable. sounds like a good idea for drag queens since you can use ice to get colder then ambient.

still I would like to see some feedback from others for street track type applications.

why not rig up an fmic with an intercooler spray? one that can be used manually or automatic intervals.

So, did you ever do this ?

If so, I'd be interested, because I'd like to do the same thing.
