Wastegate and turbo pre-control solenoids

After purchasing the car I was looking around under the hood and noticed the turbo pre-control and wastegate control solenoids are no longer there. I was told since a boost controller is installed, there is no need for these solenoids. I wanted to be certain and consult the collective knowledge of the forum.

For one thing, you must have some resistors installed or you'll have some codes thrown.

It is throwing codes, thats how I noticed they weren't there in the first place.

I don't know what kind of resistors to use but you obviously need something. I removed mine from the loop when I installed my manual controllers but left them in place and plugged in so I wouldn't get those codes. It sounds like this is more an annoyance than a real problem though.

IIRC, 360 ohm 1/2 watt resistors will do the trick.

I had 300 ohm - 1/2 watt when I was non-sequential and they worked fine, all 15 of them : )

Or you could just get a PFC and not worry about codes

300 Ohm works hey..........???

When I measure the resistence of those soleniods, they usually come up between 30-40 Ohms. As long as the ECU I/P registers some type of current flow, they keep the faults away.

Crepete........... Does your boost controller have 2-stages to control "pre-control/1st turbo wastegate" + "Wastegate". If not, how does it maintain sequential operation of the turbo's...........???

To be honest, I don't even know. It's a Greddy Profec-b, if that answers your question in any way.

Really!? I have a PFC but doesn't it work like the stock, checking all the system items and such? Anyway, before I go out for some resistors I'll just unplug mine and see what happends.

it checks some things, it just doesn't care with almost all of them. it assumes you know what you are doing, and now how to diagnose problems and stays out of your way. also, it doesn't control the EGR regardless, since no JDM cars had that AFAIK.

i've never even had it flash the check engine light for anything like the insanely high knock my sensor sees because it's old and probably loose. the coolent and shift buzzers still work though.

Most boost controllers only control the wastegate, you will still need the pre-control solenoid and lines. Sounds like the previous owner was running non-sequential with a boost controller to me....
