here we go again...
what's wrong with buying a reman from mazda? aren't they suppose to use new seals/springs/housings/waterpump/...like everything?
i was asking rocky at rx7.com about pulling mine apart and replacing everything (with a streetport, too) or buying a reman and pull apart/port/reassemble. he said that i should just buy a reman and be done. "done as in no porting," i asked. "yes, we have stock motors making over 530 hp."
i'm grasping at straws, people! WTF should i do?
oh BTW, yes, i am capable of porting - '85 GSL with 4-port streetport whoopin' *** everyday since january

I just bought a reman two months ago for a '94 touring. I also wanted to buy from Ray Crowe, but the shipping charges were outrageous (I am in Oregon). Especially getting the core back to him. So, Ray actually called my local Mazda dealer and talked them into selling me a reman for $2000. That is $50 more than Ray, but shipping was going to be around $400 both ways from Malloy!
Go hold Ray's price over the head of your local Mazda dealer and see if you can talk them down. That way, you don't pay any shipping. You might pay more than Ray's price, but it will be cheaper in the long run.
Also, I got the reman because the guy I bought the car from drove it till it quit! I probably would have gone broke buying new parts for a rebuild of that motor. I guess that's Mazda's problem now.
Good luck,
Jeff
