I don't believe anyone here has done it before, so I'd suggest heading down to your nearest body shops and shoot the idea off to them. Personally I don't like the way a vert 3rd gen looks unless it's shown from the angle in the first picture.

I don't think you should molest the RX-7 like that.
Go get a Miata.

While I don't mind the 2nd gen convertible, i beleive the RX-7 is meant to be a coupe!

to put it plainly, do what you like, but you will only be able to FLOSS the fd then. it would lose all of its outstanding handling charachteristics......

The FD was not designed to be a convertible. You would lose a large amount of chassis stiffness. The handling would suffer dramatically.

Yeah, I agree with the above. Unless you want it to drive like a Chrysler Sebring, I wouldn't do it.

They look ok with the top down, but what about with the top UP? I bet it looks stupid.

Maybe if you tried to make a hard top?

You really really would lose the handling, or the acceleration. Either you lose the handling because you chassis is as loose as Dr Ruth, or you loose acceleration because it weighs a ton because of all the extra bracing you added.

It's your money although you will kill your cars suspension/handling. Just know this before going in!

If you add a sunroof to an R1 model, it will significantly lose value.

As you know, the 3rd gen has not depreciated in value in a good 4 years. The R1 models generally go for the most $$$.

A convertable would lose much chassis stiffness and greatly change the feeling of the car.

I love the looks of an FD, vert or not, so it is your choice

Good luck
