Damn, that is EXACTLY what I want. Apexi with CWR IC. I was wondering how the piping would. Did they have to custom make the pipes?

How much was the cost for IC, Turbo and installation?

Labor for just the turbo was in the $400 range with the IC install a little bit added to that, the turbo kit about $3500, and the IC I actually bought used. There are other things that will need to be done to support the turbo, such as larger secondaries - so that would have to be factored in to. They also replaced all the gaskets too, so it all adds up - quickly -hehe.

CWR is no longer in business it appears, but word is there is a kit coming out very similar to the CW setup, plus with the intergrated hood exhaust duct like Duane was planning....

Umm, (this is where Daniel hides his head in shame, as that he did not do all the work like he said he was), I dunno. I imagine it goes to something that needs to read pressure. I'll trace it later.

In the end though, I am glad I had professionals do it. I'm sure I could have done it and finished it eventually, but not w/o a bunch of 'uh-ohs' along the way. On paper, its a lot of money - but considering all the work, attention to detail, and knowledge/experience that went into the work - money very well spent IMHO.

BTW, Duane "claims" that he will still build these ICs, but only for group buys, btu he also doesn't make it a priority so you may have to wait a while to get them. He made me a replacement Cold Air intake for mine that burned up in an engine bay fire I'm still waitng on the top cover though.

Kragen sells a cheap ajustable thermostatic switch. If you wired that up with a relay you could put the sensor on the intercooler and set it to go on at whatever temp you want. I think they cost $14. I use one on my car to trigger the radiator fans on at a lower temp. If I could find somebody with a datalogit I could just ajust it on my PFC. But nobody will help me .
Check them out, they are simple and cheap!

Spools quick, needless to say! I've been meaning to give initial impressions of the parts on my car, but working full time and going back to school has really invaded on my RX7 daydreaming time! (or is it suppose to be the other way around, hehe?)

Apexi single BB turbo kit: Anyways, have not really gotten on the car yet. Its not fully tuned, and of course the shop cautions against getting on it until then. Between that and waiting for a duct, I'll play it safe for the time being hehe. So, for the time being all I can tell is that it builds boost quickly. Having to back off is so not fun (and hard!).

Apexi Power FC computer: This really is an awesome product. It truly can be pretty much plug and play for all intents and purposes. I'm currently on the base maps with the only changes to the ecu settings being the 1300cc secondaries and and disabling of sequential turbo control. Its running a little rich based on my a/f nose meter at idle thru 3K rpms.

(Before I continue, I stress again that I am not driving it hard in anyway until tuning, and I of course recommend that no one drives thier car hard with a newly installed P FC until having it tuned by pros. I just wanted to point out that I am surprised how the ecu can be adapted to a single turbo and mods with just a couple settin changes, and still burble around like stock - even after hearing this on the forum over and over...).

The shop reset the ecu a little before I left, so the learning function of the ecu occured over the course of the last few days. There was a little bit of hunting in the idle over this time period - meaning it would idle at 800 rpms or so, surge a bit to 1100 rpms, then slowly settle again - repeat every 30 secs or so. The 2nd day that I brought it back, the car idled around 2000 rpm while driving around the neighborhood and would not come down, but I have not seen that in the last couple days. Tonight, I took it to a tiny section of rural curvy road and it idled and drove just like stock.

One issue of the P FC is that some people have had it affect the operation of thier A/C. I have lost the number 3 A/C fan setting like many others, but strangley enough the A/C seems stronger then ever in the remaining 3 settings.

Over the almost 2 years I've owned the car, I have almost never put the setting on less then 4, but on the drive back from the shop I thought I was going to turn into a popsicle and had to leave it on 1 or 2. Strange. I'm pretty sure the shop did not touch my A/C as that 1) none of the work involved relocating/etc A/C parts and 2) they would have charged me for it hehe. Anyways, I'm happy as that it gets HOT here in Houston.

B&M short shifter: Since mine was an auto prior, I really don't have a frame of reference. When I first picked up the car, I thought the shifter was on the tight side and hard to get into gear. By tonight though, action was relatively easy, if still a bit on the tight side. Either its loosening up, or I'm getting use to it - or both. The throws are short, and shifts have to be deliberate as I mentioned. It does not have that 'just fall into gear feeling'. I like it though, and since its only a few days old, I'm sure it will only get better.

ACT Street Clutch kit: Again, as that I can't get on the car much, I really can't comment too much on this. Seems to clamp well, and clutch pedal action is ok for stop and go driving. A tiny hard to modulate off the line, but then again its only a few days old and I have not driven a manual in over 100K miles hehe. I've heard nothing but good things on this kit, so I think I'll be happy with this kit.

Apexi N1 Dual cat back: I had this on my car originally, and thought I'd include it here for reference. As in another post, it sounded ok - tiny bit on the high side and a bit loud with stock seq twin turbos, hiflow cat, dp, and silencers in the tips of the exhaust. I'm pretty sensitive to noise, and it was acceptable to me (and the local constable hehe).

After swapping the twins for the single, the N1 Dual is now LOUD. I guess the stock seq twin turbo system does put quite a bit of restriction on the exhaust side. Its actually another reason why I have not been getting on the car. The last thing I need is to attract attention and get pulled over with no interior (or passenger seat). Exhaust has to go, and thinking of getting the RB dual.

Not related to the general theme of this post, but thought I included anyways:

The last week is the first time with my H&R lowering springs, Koni Yellow adjustable shocks, and Jimlab nylon bushings (rear only for the time being) combo. The suspension is so taut now. I honestly can't discern that much more road noise from the nylon bushings - and now that every last bushing in the rear has been replaced, I have no more clunking- yipee! I swear, that cluncking was absoultely ruining the RX7 experience. Keep in mind that the jimlab bushings (now sold elsewhere) replaces only the regular bushings, and the other spherical bushings will need to be replaced with OEM parts.

You do feel the road imperfections/texture more apparently now, but is within my limits of noise acceptance. Very in nature of the car. The best I can describe it is like you have your fingers on the road while driving - w/o road rash though... Have not done much thrashing (see reason above), but can not wait to take it to the canyon roads in Austin (another good reason to bring it back to Austin to tune!)

All in all, so far so good. My first foray into (relatively) highly modified cars is going extremely well, with little/none of the neediness/headaches I would have expect from a modified car. Drives and burbles just like stock (though LOUD with the current exhaust hehe) and even in its current state of tune, and would be a pleasure for daily driving.

I'll keep you guys informed of any new experiences with the parts.

Thanks! Kragen is an auto store chain right? I was searching for 'Kragen' thermoswitch hehe. I'll stop by my local autostore chain to see what they got.

Engine bay looks pretty good. You should lose that blue hose fast though. It's a bit Hurting to look at. Since I'm running at the mouth you should polish or remove the relay mounting brackets as well . But really it looks good I'm just obsessive compulsive over engine bays. Still that Turbo is sweeet. I agree Duane at CWR is a show, very difficult to appreciate his "customer service" Ha...
