VR Red touring engine bay repaint options

I am in the process of doing a "light" shave on my engine bay, getting rid of unnecessary holes and just cleaning it up in general.

I was planning on spraying the bottom rails with some two-stage black urethane chassis paint and then painting the upper with rattle cans from Touch Up Paint from PaintScratch.com to match the car. (my car is touring with VR three stage)

Now that I am digging into it, I think I want to do the entire thing vintage red. I would like something as durable as a urethane but want it to match as best possible. I could get a quart from Touch Up Paint from PaintScratch.com but it seems stupid expensive and I am not sure how durable that would be. Would a quart be enough?

What are you guys using and how much? I build furniture on the side so I am a pretty decent sprayer and have the equipment. What options are out there for me? I am not sure if I really need/want to do three stage or just do a single stage urethane to sorta match...

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I restore furniture and spray finish for a living clairsrestoration.com Just thought I'd mention that since we have similar professions. My dad used to have a body shop and I have painted a few cars and a few Fd engine bays, parts etc.. so I have a lot of experience with this. Just redid my current Fd, thread in the build forum if your interested. My advice for the engine bay is to not bother with "short cut" paints. I'd go ahead and get the right materials. You'll want a degreaser/cleaner a good sealer/primer and some base and clear coat. You can save some cash by getting the cheaper Nasom brand as opposed to DuPont or any premium paint. You'd only need a quart of each. It might be a little more money than what you were planning but it will turn out a lot nicer.

If you have any questions when you get rolling on it PM me and I'll send you my cell for text.

I think its better that the engine bay match the color of the car, rather than multiple colors.

Thanks for the info! I found a local place I can get paint from, they actually sell that Nasom brand, I had never heard of it. Is it decent?

I am going to do it right instead of just patch it together. Now the question becomes do I use single stage (what is on it from the factory) base/clear coat or go tri-colr, base/midcoat/clear. I know that either way I go won't match perfectly but I can't decide witch way to go.
