Virgin RX-7 maintenance/upgrades
Just a stream of consciousness post here. . .
My AST got a crack in it, and I decided to fix that on my stock 95. After an RTFM session and a look-over, I realized that this was going to be a pain, so I went ahead and picked up a pettit intake, intercooler, y-pipe, and some hard pipes from Mike Jtinerant who was selling 'em. (in addition to the new pettit AST)
So I picked Sunday to work on it. . . awesome choice. It's 90 and humid. I got the stock airbox out a few minutes ago. . .
Verdict: The stock airbox is a pain in the ***.
Now I realize that it would have been a good idea to pick up a new radiator while I'm at it. Heh.
The other lesson learned is that RX-7's are a lot harder to work on than Buicks. Those japanese and their damn little hands! Oh well. I'm putting $8G into the car this summer. . . we'll see how it turns out. (Though it's amazing how fast $8G can evaporate)

Be careful when replacing the stock intake/intercooler with an aftermarket one. By changing those two pieces you change the air/fuel ratio in the engine. This could cause some serious problems unless you have an aftermarket ECU like an Apexi PFC. I would hold off on the intake/intercooler and get a downpipe, Racing Beat catback, Pettit AST, and radiator instead. But that's just me.

heh.
I have all the "reliability" mods you listed and a PFC is on the way (with my new radiator). . . I guess I should say that they're all in my garage and I'm putting them all in.
I've been 'round these parts for a while and heard enough horror stories to want to play it safe.

Okay. Just wanted to make sure you at least had a computer and the other reliability stuff. I saw the Pettit AST in the list of stuff you were putting on, but nothing about the other stuff. I don't know anymore about your car than what you post on here. I just wanted to make sure you didn't have trouble down the road.
