oh yea, i meant to ask you... what do you use the 7 for? was/is it a daily driver? (doubt it, lol) since getting the large street port is strictly a weekend toy? with that new idle does it seem like it would be a little more of a challenege to drive in normal conditions? it just sounds like it wants WOT
i'm trying to figure out what size port i would want... i might want to use it for more than just weekend cruises, but i would have a daily beater. that 500+hp figure is just so much to drool over, any advice? thanks a lot...

If it stops raining today, I'll take her out on the street and will have more feedback on street drivability then. Seems to have a very solid idle, just a little lumpy...

As far as advice, people mod their cars to many different levels and for many different reasons. I would say
1) get a daily beater (and don't mod it, hahaha)
2) Determine your budget
3) Pick a hp goal (you'll likely up it once you get close)
4) Re-evaluate your budget (hahaha, taking into consideration your new hp goals)
5) Take time to listen to others who have gone before you, you don't have to take their advise, but you'll get lots and lots of good information from forum members (as I'm sure you already know)
6) If you "want to be different" - double or triple your budget
7) If you can't afford to double or triple your budget stick with following in the footsteps of others, much thought and savings for you have been put into the various "kits", be it intercooler, turbo, etc...
I'll get you guys some street videos ASAP!!!
I'm done rambling now...

Well, it was a beautiful car before the engine, now it's beautiful and deadly.
It's a shame you guys couldn't have gotten up here to run that thing at the strip. I would have even given up my bragging rights for fastest time to see that car roar down the track.

If you exchanged in your core what would the price have been? That doesnt include installing it right?

You are correct, that price DOES NOT install installing. Z and I (with some other random in-out help from other excited Columbus RX-7 friends), pulled the motor and tranny in 3 hours, removed the accessories in 3 additional hours. Installation took a bit longer 3-4 hours to put the accessories back on, 4-5 hours to drop motor and tranny back in and hook everything back up. We aren't experts so expect to pay for fewer hours than that if you took it to a shop to be done.
Few shops will give your car the loving attention to detail that you will when doing work. The combination of that and the great sense of accomplishment that I receive by doing my own work is well worth a few busted knuckles, dirty finger nails (I hate rubber gloves) or smelling like tranny fluid for a few days... (BONUS: plus I can usually fix it when it breaks and don't have to sit around feeling helpless)

Nice car man, you engine bay look great.
The idle will smooth out as the vacume get higher. Its basically how when you loose your vacume due to a blown seal you get a lumpy idle.
After you get some miles on it and your vac is up real good I'd like to hear another video of it.
Later,
STEPHEN

I want your engine and your turbo, or else!!!
Sike, lol. Very very nice. Makes me want one. I thought the price would be a bit more, which means maybe i will pick one up over the winter
If im lucky. Sounds great. I can't wait to see more videos. Keep em comin.
Hey thats a JIC bullet type exhaust right? Also are u running a midpipe or just a highflow cat. I have never done a rebuild, so when i have the engine installed does the shop installing it break it in for me or will i have to just go out back of the place and do it myself before i acually drive it home.

From: Miami - Given 1st place as the POOREST city in the US as per the federal government

I remember when I broke in my engine. I drove about 500 miles over the weekend

People say the big port job has a shitty idle, and seriously, I don't see it that bad.
That is a nice sounding car. I can't wait to get my new motor back from BNR. Makes me want to call him right now and ask when it will be ready. Then I can put my **** together again. Nice car man. I'll be in the Columbus area for a tuning after my new motor and turbo kit are installed. See you then. Scott
Damn...can't wait for the old streetport and big turbo to go on my 7. Setting the stage as we speak...so to speak.
If memory serves me correctly, you are the guy who beat the Saleen. Well, after lets say 500 miles on that engine you give the "ole" Saleen another run. Get the dude in his passenger seat to video tape the expression on his face when you open up the throttle.

tk5dan - ya, I just put that JIC Bullet on my car. Had previously had the Greddy Power Extreme. When I went single the Greddy PE was a little too "tinny sounding" for my tastes.
Midpipe, thought I do have a high-flow cat I used for 3 days that I'm selling. Is the Bonez highflow, I purchased it from rx7.com (don't ban me Jason)
If you have a shop put your motor in, that is probably all they will do, other than the intial startup. No shop that I know of is going to drive the 500miles of "no boost" no fun breakin for you...

If you do the speed limit it is about 45 more minutes up to Lapeer Dragway. I grew up right next door to their in Garden City.
Bummer about her moving, but sweet if I get to see your car run...
Tell Badog he and the wife can come on up too (and maybe he should check his private messages once a month or maybe a little more often...)

For anyone who the video doesn't work for, you might want to goto here:
http://flathat.woodstream.net/RX7/Pineapple_Engine/
right click, save as on the WMV file and save to your HD, then open with Media Player.
Rx-Revin if it doesn't snow, I'll try to get some more pics. I haven't really seen the exhaust, we put it on about midnight, got the car started about 4am and I haven't seen it again since...
