Very poor fuel economy, normal?

Car has 60k miles and new plugs, runs good, both turbos working now... but this thing DEMOLISHES fuel, I put in $5 last night and drove to work (10 miles) drove to lunch (2 miles) and to a customer's (4 miles) and the gas light is on again, I do power slides here and there but keep it 2-3k at light throttle most of the time

this to be expected?

you know... actual MPG numbers would be alot more useful... i get around 20mpg on average

also, stop running it so close to empty, just buy a full tank of gas
oh... and i'm pretty sure that starting the car uses more gas than idling. something like 7 minutes of idle uses as much gas as starting it (again, i think)

$5 of gas? City driving? What did you expect?

Fill up a tank full, drive until the tank is near empty, fill it up and count the gallons and miles driven. That is the only way to get accurate gas mileage figures.

For the mathematically declined:

$5.00 (money spent) / $2.40 (average premium gas price) = 2.08 (gallons)

10 + 2 + 4 = 16 (total miles driven)

Assuming he put in $5.00 when the gas light was on, since he did say "and the gas light is on again," you would then have:

16 (total miles) / 2.08 (total gallons) = 7.7 MPG

If the scenario is somewhat true though, you are getting anywhere from 7-10 MPG in reality. I've also read that starting the car takes a lot of gas. I didn't factor it into the equation but that could obviously change your MPG also. I have the same problem my gas mileage is terrible. On a full tank I can get anywhere from 150 (driving it HARD) to 280 (practiaclly no boost) MPG. Don't feel bad though the Hummer guys got it worse.

Pugg is right though, don't run the car below the quarter mark. This is a good way to flood your car, not to mention if your pushing it with less then a quarter tank you are running the risk of doing some serious damage to your motor.

On short, stop & go, trips, I wouldn't expect more than ~10 mpg. I average ~16-20 on local driving, and up to 26 mpg for long trips.

Yeah I usually put in gas when the light comes on as I just got it on the road and have been troubleshooting issues, which all seem to be fixed now, I was just surprised how quickly it goes through gas even when you're easy on it... i'll put in a bunch tonight *sniffle*

I understand it has what I consider to be huge primary and secondary injectors (running 785cc x 4 @ 43psi 1:1 in the subaru and only using ~70% IDC of those injectors WOT/300whp) so I guess this is to be expected, figured closed loop was a bit more forgiving though

The FD gets lousy gas mileage. That's the way it is. Accept it, or sell the car ......... You can't do anything about it .
