Vented Hoods, Could They Increase Performance By Extracting Air?

I am thinkin of puttin' some luvers or vents in my hood to get some of that hot air out of the engine bay and away from the intake, is this a good idea and performance increasing?

whell it will keep your engine a couple of degrees down, its possibly but really nothing noticable you would feel while driving, never a bad thing to get to keep the engines cooler

Thanx for the link, those hondas' hoods look like pretty good possibilities, but someone in that thread asked about rain gettin into the engine bay - should I be worried about that because wet air filters are'nt very good for ones motor, right?
Are there any other good threads anyone could recommend for me on the hood venting?

If you have an "open air intake," yes louvers will increase your performance. My scoot hood has droped the under hood temps dramatically --colder air equals more HP.

well that and my intake sits just behind the front scoop of the hood, which means I now have a ram air intake. There was a noticable increase in power (at 40mph+) after I put that hood on.

The hood does come with a removable raintray so you dont have to worry about days when its raining.

given that there is at least one compressor between your intake and throttle body i doubt you're getting much "ram air" effect. The ease of getting cool air on the other hand most definitely enhances performance.

The cooler you can keep the engine the better in any case.

You have a hood on that FD? Where?? LOL I bet you can change your oil, remove your BOV, and prob even pull off your elbow and UIM w/o ever having to pop the hood!

I'm just messin man. My friend has the same hood, and I always poke fun at him at how HUGE those vents are by sayin "It's not a hood w/ vents; it's vents that just happen to have a bit of hood around 'em" hehe. Nice hood though!

I dont have a picture of it, but, it is molded to fit the underside of the hood and dosent have any gaps. It just pops in and out with a few screws.

I have two seperate 2" black flex tubing that sit behind the center opening and feed directly to each intake. They are not pictured above because they look a bit tacky, but, are quite functional.

Hmmmm, I didnt think the defination of "ram air" ment ambiant air is forced directly into the throttle body. Rather, I thought it ment air is forced directly into the intake track.

RE-Amemiya7, got more photos of your intake tubes? I have the same APEXi intakes which I installed last night. I had to cut and tape up the hold platic intake tubes but I want to get some local shop to make real alu tubes. Got any measurements? I have FMIC so there is very little room for the intakes.
