Vacuum & RPM readings

Did a search on what normal readings should be but there seems to be a lot of things that factor into these. My readings at idle when cold are -16 on vacuum at 1000 rpm's. When warm it's -13 on vacuum at 700 rpm's. At start up after the car has been driven for a while, the rpm's dip to 600 rpm's then climbs back to 700 rpm's. Got 84,000 miles on original engine and turbo. Only mods is intake and exhaust. Is my car starting to die? How long do you think until I need a rebuild?

Unless you are experiencing a vacuum leak or an inaccurate gauge, I would say that your motor could be on its way out....A healthy stock-port motor should be pulling ~18" of vacuum at an 800rpm idle. My streetported motor pulls about 16" of vacuum, once warmed up, at about 850-900 rpm idle.

Yeah I kind of figured. Hey I just noticed your from San Lorenzo. I just posted in the West Area forum on where to take my car to be looked at in the Bay Area. Coming home in January and leaving the car there when I leave for Korea. Any suggestions on what shop can bring my FD back to life? Aren't many shops here in Virginia's Hampton area...Nevermind. Just saw your post there. Thanks

Any idea of what those numbers would convert into mm/hg? (pfc readings)

I think I get around -350 or so on the pfc @ 800 rpms. I guess that's a little low?

This is on stock port motor, mods intake, dp, cb exhaust, intercooler. no vac leaks

I'm in the same boat. I installed a *brand new* motor (not a rebuild) roughly 1900 miles ago. It only pulls 14.5-15 inHg at 1080 rpm idle and 14.7:1 AFR (no load). I live at 2700' altitude so that's part of it. Ambient air pressure is 2.8 inHg less than sea level. All the hoses and gaskets on the motor are brand new (except for the injectors). I've been over everything accessable with carb-cleaner and propane trying to find a leak but nothing popped up. I was sweating it until I checked compression and all faces are 95-100 psi which is just "OK". I guess now I'm down to a vaccum leak at the lower intake manifold or a vaccum leak at the injectors.

It's defnitely strong at full throttle though.

16 inHg = 552 g/sq cm

Go to "pressure" in the pull down menu on the top left.

Vacuum to bar? Vacuum is measured in mmHg on the pfc and inHg on most boost gauges. Bar is different. Or not

Amazingly I'm happy to say my KDR streetport with ~30k has pulled 18+ inHg all year at 850. Not much difference at 750.

No shops down here, but there's a couple in NoVa. I know a couple of Rotary whizzes down here but they're mostly into FC's and earlier. I know one guy in the area that's supposed to be really good with FD's. I'll PM you his username.
Where in Hampton are you? Have we met before?

I sent you a PM. PM Chris, he'll give you some advice. I'm surprised we've never seen each other, Hampton's not a big place, especially for TWO 94 VR FD's. Actually, I have a friend who's seen your car thinking it was me.....

Nope, never been there. Bunch of Ricer kids?? I'd probably stand out like a sore thumb, lol. I'm 35, married, 3 kids and one on the way. But if you think they're cool, I might be able to get my wife to "let me out" for the evening. I think I've heard that there's a group of people that meet Fri or Sat nights on Jefferson by CC and Barnes and Noble.

For those looking for conversions....www.onlineconversion.com Don't they teach metric in schools these days?

16" = 406mm, 18" = 457mm

I brought my car out there once and a lot of heads were turning because they don't see alot of FD's. I was the only one there. But yeah, mostly Ricer kids between the ages of 19 to 25. It was alright

I think my wife has a party to go to tomorrow night. If I can get a sitter for the kids, I might go. Are you going? What time do they start showing up?

Last night, some kid in a Civic on 64 got up beside me and tried to race. LOL, thought it was funny, I just shook my head at him.

There's usaully a good crowd between 930 to 1030. After that they leave to go meet at another spot to race. I just go home. Not worth goin to jail for racing a honda you know, though I do want to see how I do with an S2000? I might pass by. Alot of people just pass by to see the comotion. If anything, just pick up some groceries while your there. I think Krogers is open 24 hrours.

Pretty good, I might have a boost/gauge problem. I've tried doing the boost test a couple of time, but I find it hard to look at the road, boost gauge, tach and speedo all at the same time. It looks like the gauge is reading 5-3-5(still not totally sure), but when the second turbo comes online the car pulls REAL hard, well at least to me. My car idles high and the vac reads around 17-18 standing still, which seems kinda high for a streetported engine(maybe it's due to the high idle?) As some as I can get some ME time, I'm going to have a look at the hoses and either test my current gauge or get another one to test the boost.

Hmm. When I was boosting at 6psi, it ended up being my Y-pipe coupling. Had a huge tear in it. Not that I'm saying you didn't look there, because I guess it's a common spot to have a boost leak from, but like I said before, I don't know dick about these cars and it took me a week before i knew what people were talkng about.

I haven't looked yet. It's just that with a busy family, it's sometimes hard to take time out to do a thorough look at all the hoses. Plus I haven't heard any loud air rushes under the hood that would make me think it was one of the large hoses that has a tear, but hey, I could be wrong....

Hmm. I couldn't tell if I had whooshes or not when I had the leak, but then again I didn't know what to listen for. Ever since the fix, my intake seems to be sucking a lot more air than it used to IT'S making a whooshing sound. But anyway, good luck with that. Maybe we'll see each other out there.
