Question Vacuum hoses, turbo rebuild, rear shaft seal

'94 FD, stock except for Bonez DP. Bought car new in '94; 78K miles; new slight engine oil leak, probably rear output shaft seal. Lotsa oil smoke on cold startup, probably turbos leaking oil into intake/exhaust system. Vacuum hoses about due for replacement.

Need to do all the subject items; have 1/8" and 1/4" I.D. thickwall Viton vacuum hoses. What order should the job be done? Rear output shaft seal requires pulling engine, right? I cannot/will not do that myself; need to find a good shop in the Orange County (CA) area. I could do the vacuum hose replacements myself with engine in place, and could (probably with much pain and agony) pull the turbos with the engine in place, but can't see the point in all the DIY stuff with engine in place if it has to be pulled anyway.

If you had to do these three items, how would you do them, and in what order?

Thanks!

---- Bill

You can do the rats nest hose job with "alot" of time and patience.

There is a shop very close to you but for diagnosing you should go to Mazdatrix. If he can't tell you what it is in 30sec, then make an appointment (two weeks).

Go buy a torch (small lighter one) for the hose job... it will save you time any $! Do a search on that.... do you know anyone that works at a shop? Rear output shaft can be done w/ trany out on a lift... I think... need to pull cluth assy. and flywheel, counter weight also... hope you know your **** j/k On the turbos... either rebuild them or pick up a set... depends on your wallet

Thanks for your replies. GoRacer, what shop were you writing about? Wonderland, is the torch for melting off the old hoses? Sounds dangerous...

Is your Bonez DP stainless or mild steel. The guy who owned my FD before put on a Bonez mild steel, and it rusted to hell. Just something to look for. Good luck.

Use the torch to scorch the ends where they go onto the solinoids... they will probably catch on fire for a sec, then use a razor blade to slice and split them... also go and get a craftsman razor shear thing... has a razor blade on one side and a block on the other... cut the hose in the middle so you have two easier piece to work with...

RedX7,

The Bonez DP is stainless, thanks for your input.

wonder1and,

OK, thanks for the tip. I figured to slice the old hoses, but never thought of carbonizing them!
