Vacumm Solenoid Valve
Hey all,
Snooping around under the hood today I found a solenoid valve with one end not connected to anything. It is a three connector solenoid just like the Charge Control and Charge Relief Solenoid valves and is mounted right under them. I looked up the "Turbo System Simplified" diagram and that diagram does not show this solenoid. Also, the solenoid has one of the three connections going back to the UIM where the symplified diagram shows it capped off.
However, refering to the vacumm routing diagram under the hood the solenoid is identified as #24 "P ONLY S.V." See below:
The missing connection is the one on the same side as the electrical connector. It is shown on the routing diagram above as going to Item #23 "Air Filter ONLY M/T ". Since my FD is M/T, is it OK for this to not have the air filter and just be left open? What is this soleniod doing? Do I need it? Should it go connected somewhere else?
Thanks for any help you can provide,
Tony

That is commonly called the double throttle solenoid. Some people eliminate the dt system, which serves to restrict boost while the engine is not warmed up.
The missing connection to the air filter is not present on some cars. As long as the solenoid has one of those little basket air filters attached to that end, it's fine. Without the filter, there is a risk of the solenoid clogging with dust, but I consider this to be a nonessential component.
