Looks like someone will be a little hot during the summer months. I was thinking about removing the AC but then I realized its kind of good to have. But then I realized it's a pain in the *** to keep. Damn.... I should have removed my AC

So the APEX intake actually fits with the vmount without modification? That really surprises me. I thought it would not work.

Nah.... it takes some modification, and a lot of creativity.

I can't wait to get back home now and get my car going again. V-mount is definitely on my to-buy list now.

Chuck,

What happens to the rad fans? Do you still make use of them? The fans are very important, IMHO...

They sit behind the radiator in the same position they would sit if they were on the stock radiator.

Bricktop: Very nice job! Great creativity and modification. Shield the driver's side and those intakes will get all the air they'll ever need. Tom

Thanks Tom, I've got a ton of pics I'd love to share I just cant get them to go through... takes forever....

Went out for a little drive last night that turned into 15 dollars worth of gas !! it was pretty cool last night,60's.
Did Several 60-120 mph runs and the intake temps were never above 30, as a matter of fact temps stayed in the high 20's for just about the entire time I was on the highway.

Is that the same intercooler as in this pic?

Its as large as an M2 or CWR "large".... what is bigger?

The M2 large and CWR large are using the 13"x17"x3.5" Spearco intercooler core which flows 750 CFM. It's larger but it does not flow as much. All the data are provided by Spearco. The core I use is the newest Spearco tube and fin which flows a lot more despite the the smaller size which is why I choose it.

I can make you a custom one using the 13"x17"x3.5" core if you want but you will have to relocate the battery to the back. becuase the core is 2" too wide.

Sorry if I'm reviving this thread from the dead, but I had a question for Chuck about the Vmount.

I think someone said that the fan was mounted under the radiator out of view but worked for attracting air to it. Would it be possible to also mount a fan to the back of the intercooler, thus forming a vaccum for air?

What are your opinions on a vented hood benefiting this setup? Do you think the fans would act as a vacuum, geting more air to not only the radiator, but also the IC? Would a vented hood venting off the excess air benefit as well? Let me know.

a vented hood will do a great deal in the way of keeping an effecient air flow through the engine bay. Dan (Scrub) has a vented hood on the way from Chuck as well... I don't know how much a fan behind the IC would do, unless you are using it strictly when the car is at a stop to prevent/slow the effects of heatsoak, but i don't really think it would be worth it, and at speed the fan would just disturb the air flow as it exits the IC... in my opinion, the vented hood is a great addition to this set-up, and any aftermarket IC set-up, but adding a fan to the IC is kind of worthless.

maybe Chuck can add his thoughts as well...

A vented hood would do much more than having a couple of fans sitting on top of the IC. I imagine the fans would slow down the flow of air through the IC at speed. If you're worried about heat soak, I'd go with a vented hood and maybe look at fabbing some duct work like our friends in Japan have done for horizontal mounted intercoolers so that the air is clear of the engine bay as soon as it exits the top side of the IC. Just make sure your vents are large enough first.

new v-mount

i just heard from rotary extreme that their comin out with a new v-mount setup called their "monster v-mount" thats twice as big as the one now. heres the email:
The intercooler core flows 635 cfm at 15 psi. So what you do is to look at the compressor map of the turbo and see how much they flow together at 15 psi. If they flow less than the intercooler core rating, the intercooler will be enough. If it flows higher, you should consider our monster v mount that's coming out in about 6 weeks. It's twice as big as the current one and flows 1500 cfm.

i was asking him about its use with a twin turbo setup. The only problem is i`m having trouble finding compressor maps for hks gt series turbos. Also is anyone using this kit with any other turbo setup than stock. If so i would like to see sum picks.

A vented hood probably will not increase the air flow through the radiator but definitely through the IC. You will be able to mount a fan on the IC. An 10" diameter low profile fan can be mounted on there.

Re: new v-mount

Actually the monster v mount intercooler core is 2.4 times the size of the current one. It flows at 1500 CFM (114 lb/min) at 15 psi. It will only work with a single turbo or an aftermarket twin turbo set up that does not have a air box type intake.

Once I get my turbo back (turbo blew up), I will be working on this right away. Thank you.

Chuck has always turned out a quality product as far as I'm concerned. Fit and finish as something I wouldn't even question with his stuff and now I'm glad to see some data starting to come in with this setup.

I know that Chuck does have a bracket for the AST for those who want to keep it. I'm not sure exactly where it goes though.
