If you want the sunroof, then get the '94 PEP. Sunroofs not only add weight high up of the car, but they are also just another working part that can break and they also reduce your headroom by about two inches. I wish I didn't have a sunroof, because my head brushes the roof and flattens my 'fro. Grrrrr...

BTW, I love my sunroof. I would never own a FD without one...

Yea, but even then, a rotary that has been sitting is not always a good thing. Keeping those seals working isn't going to happen by the car sitting for 3-4 years.

It's your money. We can't tell you what to buy. I would be leary of low mileage FD's just as high mileage ones.

Here is another interesting tid-bit FD's computers have a 20,000 mileage switch. When these cars were new at around that mileage thats when the computers on these cars used to go on the fritz (stalling at stops, air conditioning problems, poor idle quality). Make sure the 93 has had all the recalls done as well. One of the recalls was a new ECU, another was the fuel line recall, and the other was the cooling system recall.

FD = 3rd gen RX-7
FC = 2nd gen RX-7
FB/SA = 1st gen RX-7

These digits come from the 4th and 5th digits in the VIN of an RX-7.

What are the asking prices?

Shoot, I'll buy the R1 if the price is right.

Unless you really want a sunroof I'd be all over that R1. 12,000 miles. Let me say it again... 12,000 miles. I personally love my sunroof but if I could get a car with 12,000 miles... Oh, and Jonski, all FDs have sway bars, although '94-'95 have a looser rear bar. You can also equip pretty much any FD like any model without too much trouble. The main things that don't change easily are sunroof, rear wiper, and sound deadening. So, bottom line, go for the 12,000 miles, you'll probably have one of the top 20 low mile cars in the country.

DUDE! 12,000 miles on a '93 R-1 .... that has to be THE lowest mileage R-1 in the country. But seriously speaking, I'd say it depends on what you plan on doing with the car. If you have no intentions whatsoever of auto-x or road racing, then there's really not a whole lot of incentives to get the R-1. The R-1 is a race package ... with NO compromises. The whole car is stiff (something I kinda like) and it doesn't have a bunch of the amenities of the other models (no cruise control, no tilt wheel, no sunroof, no leather, less sound deadening ...). Buying an already setup '94 PEP will save you the cash that you'd eventually spend to make the R-1 as fast (in a straight line). On the flip side, if you do plan on doing organized racing, you can't get much better than a RX-7 R-1. Best car for the buck (minus the headache expenditures).

just remember that if you dont have a sunroof (and i dont in mine) the wind will thump in your ear if you only have one window down. if you have the sunroof open then you can eliminate some of that mess. it gets so bad on my car sometimes i just cant bear it. it makes my ears sore. i have to keep both windows down.
