URGENT! URGENT! Backfire on a New Engine Causing Turbos to Blow
I just got a new engine stock from Malloy (no ports, etc.) and a new rebuilt turbo from Tims Turbos (nothing special, just a normal rebuild). Anyway, when the turbo is bolted on, a nut which holds the compressor wheels flys off. The shop is blaming it on the turbo place because it is a good company that is doing the rebuild and it never has come up before. The turbo company is claiming the engine is backfiring and causing the wheel to spin backwards blowing out the nut. Majestic Turbo in Texas has never heard of this before, nor has Farell or Malloy. However, it seems feasible... Has this happened to anyone before???

Well, it should be pretty easy to tell if the engine is backfiring or not.....
Without knowing more, I would blame the turbo place, very few places can rebuild these turbos correctly. Ask Artguy. I think it's suspicious that the turbo place is automatically blaming the engine instead of being willing to look at their turbo rebuild.

Thats total BS man, they just didnt tq that nut on right
Are you even getting any form of compressor surge? It would be kinda like this....you give it gas and build some boost then when you let off it kinda makes a cha cha cha sound. It would be cause your bov didnt open and you got compressor surge which MIGHT cause the nut to come off but again even with that its VERY unlikely if its tqed down properly.
