URGENT HELP on ATF oil change

HELP! I've got the car jacked up and can't finish the job!

Do I need to remove the auto tranny pan to change the ATF? Or, is there a drain plug. I know the 5 spd tranny has 1 fill plug and 2 drain plugs but I don't see any plugs for auto tranny.

How do I fill the fluid if there is no fill plug? Through the dip stick neck?

Thanks guys!!

normally, you refill atf via the dipstick neck.

BTW: Check the fluid only when the car is running, thats the only way you get the real level of fluid in there, good luck.

Instead of removing the pan, you can buy a pump used to service out drives for boats. And buy clear hose that will fit inside the atf dipstick tube , make sure also that the hose fits the end of the pump now you can pump the atf out without removing the pan.

Find some shop (even most quick lube places) that has a machine that they hookup to the tranny lines and run the car. It lets the car pump out all the old fluid while new fluid goes in, it's better than just doing the ol' drain and fill, it helps get old fluid out of the torque converter.

Remove all the bolts on one sides of the pan and front. Loosen the one in the back and tip the pan down to drain it in a bucket. Once drained remove the pan and clean off the gasket material, change or clean the filter while you are there. Claen up the pan and bend any bulging bolt holes back flat. Take the pan to a welder and drill a hole in the bottom and install a drain plug ( very easily done ). I used a 1/4" plug for my drain. Then paint it glossy black, re-install with gasket and sealer. Torque the bolts evenly and re-fill with Syn. tranny oil.

Install you a 17" frame rail tranny cooler later with temp gauge.
