The owner claims it is a r1 model yet the car has a rear spoiler and a power roof! is it just me or is the power roof not and option on the R1 model. Also where is the second oil cooler located so that when I lift the hood I can identify it. Also btw the owner claims the car is a 93 yet the car is silver...... Wasnt silver not available on the 93's

yes silver is available in 93. R1 have the second oil cooler in the front bumper on the side vents. If you see 2 then you are good. From what I know R models didn't come with sun roof but I have hear some did not too sure on that.

Check the seats also, are they suede that come with the r1's? there were no silver r1's, only r2's were made from 94 up. so if it is indeed an r1, it was repainted, there was a sunroof installed, and who knows what else.

There is classifieds section in this forum and you can have a car shipped to canada... but i would recomend seeing the car in person and inspecting it before you do any buying. There are a lot of members here who have taken good care of their cars and are now selling them, but then again, there are those who beat the crap out of them and turn out to have a whole bunch of problems. Remember, you usually get what you pay for...

I know all the things I should check, complete history, the engine history milage, carfax and all the tra lala but what are the things I need to be 100 percent sure of to get the most outa my car. My indended use is to have it as a weekend ride and baby it into old age but when I wanna unleash at 2 am I can take it out. Also i kinda have this fantasy about running from cops.......

Do you know if the vehicle was originally sold in Canada or the US? If it was Canada, models and colors differed from the models sold in the US, and the information posted above is for the US models. Don't be concerned about the model name, you can add an oil cooler, or swap the seats and be basically the same. The condition is more important.
Forget what I said and buy a Geo Metro. Sounds like you've been waiting two years to get a license.

diablone is right. The cars sold in Canada were equiped differently than the U.S. models and there was more mixing of the features that were separated into different packages in the U.S. You're in Montreal, so it's seems likely you're looking at a Canadian car.

On a sidenote, I found out from Mazda what dealership originally sold my FD, but that dealership has no history or service record on the car. VIN doesn't come up at all.
The guys are right about the spoiler, dual oil coolers, and seats. Also check to see if it has a rear windshield wiper (it shouldn't), and cruise control (it shouldn't). Obviously, it's gotta be a manual too (hey, you never know lol). The front bumper should have the R-lip, and it won't have the Bose basstube. I think that's about it.
I dunno if Canada switched up the options and packages or not, but the guys on here are prob right. Also, some exceptions were made to sell the cars in later years since sales were slow, like leather seats in R models, etc. But I have yet to hear of a sunroof...

Quoted from turborx7.com
'In 1993, the R1 was the "purest of the pure". A limited-edition, racetrack oriented, car,. the R1 was only available in Vintage Red, Brilliant Black, and the rarest -- Competition Yellow Mica. Features exclusive to this model were dual oil coolers, standard front and rear spoilers, functional brake cooling ducts, stiffer shock absorbers, Pirelli Z-rated rubber and synthetic suede seating that reduced driver movement during high-G turning or braking.'
Words in bold are what have not been mentioned..

Let's see......R-1 never came in Silver as a color option, R-1 never had a sunroof as an option, I believe if it has a sunroof it should have the bose sound system in it as in 93 if it had a sunroof it was a touring package and with the touring package the bose system was part of the package with the sunroof. It wasn't till 94-95 that you could get the sunroof without the bose and that package was called the PEP or PEG package.

I would just check for dual oil coolers, but now on day people put them on too. but if the suspension is SUPER stiff and it is stock then it will be a R1.

I won't let go
If I knew then what I know now...
The only advantage of an R1 over a Touring is the seats...IMO. Since I've upgraded the crap out of mine, the suspension changed anyway. I would have bought a second cooler, and I want to change the wing to a '99. Those are the main differences (and the lip). However, some may try to get a premium selling it as an R1. Some will argue that the rigidity will not be as stiff with the moonroof, but for the majority that doesn't really matter.

That's the way a number of them came in Europe and Canada. Seeing how you live in Montreal, there is nothing unusual about your car. I have photos from several books and magazines showing 3rd Gen. RX-7's equipped just like you specified above. Nobody is trying to pull a fast one on you. The posters in this thread all have the U.S. model distinctions in their heads. That's not the way the cars were packaged and sold in Canada and Europe.
If it's a good car, buy it.

1. "Urgent!!!" is a crappy label for this topic. If you want people's opinions on "Should I buy this car?" , that's not so hard to ask, is it?
2. If you like the way the car drives, buy it if you can afford to. Don't get so caught-up with names and labels. If you like the sunroof, buy the one with the sunroof. If you hate sunroofs, wait for another.
The differences between R1 and Touring will NOT be significant enough to show up in 1/4 mile times, or even laps around most race tracks. You will notice more change from buying a $600 set of tires vs. $300.
