URGENT 3rd Gen 3 stage vs 1 stage paint

Hey everyone!

First of all, it is Vintage Red paint.

At my body shop I am getting my c-west kit painted/installed, and they first wrote the estimate based on 1 stage paint. Later on they found out 3 stage is required and that is the correct one for the VR FD color. This is for full body kit / rear hatch. How much more around should it be for materials for 3 stage?

I just would like to know to make sure I am not overpaying!

Thanks in advance!

They do make a single stage paint but it doesnot match. The best way to go is with the three stage. I'm not exactly sure what the extra cost will be. I had a friend paint and install a fender on my car but he only charged me $250.

There was a thread about a month ago about this very thing. I think the guy said the shop was charging him double.

I had my passenger side fender, duct and high mount stoplight "frame" painted VR with 3 stage, so, three separate pieces: $325.00 included polishing after the clear coat was dry, one week later. (40 minutes labor there alone!) Seemed pretty fair to me but did not include installation or removal. The fender is a lot of work timewise to install or remove. VR can be a bitch to match although I was lucky since mine is garaged/car covered all the time since new. If yours has seen normal sunlight expect to have it "burned" in to adjacent panels to match the existing paint and therefore more labor costs - of course!

I had my whole body kit painted VR 3 for $300. I don't know if it was 3 stage or 2 stage but I know it wasn't 1 stage. 1 stage is just a base coat but they have to spray it on pretty thick so it won't chip and if wetsanded, it won't go through. 2 stage is a base coat and then clear coat. Base coat can be as thin as possible but the clear should be thick. I don't know man. To answer your question I paid $300 for front bumper and sideskirts.
