Upgraded twins...?
Upgraded twins...?
My new engine has finally arrived in town. The importer had two motors, a standard trim 96' motor with 30k and another newer motor with a higher power output. The 96' motor I planned on sold unfortunately but the other is still available and should be at our shop on Monday. The importer said this engine outputs 50hp more than the standard 13B-REW, but I've only ever seen the 99spec's with 25-30 more hp. I need to ask them the model year the engine is from and possibly what trim level it came from if they know, the only ones I can think being possible are the 99 RZ and the MazdaSpeed sequentials.
I'm worried that I will not be able to run the turboset this engine is equipped with due to tuning. I am currently running a M2 Stage:3 ECU @ 12psi, my current mods are listed below:
M2 Stage:3 ECU @12psi
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
Petitt Intake
Bonez Hardpipes
Custom SMIC
3" downpipe
3" hi-flow cat midpipe
3" TurboTuf exhaust
Simplified Seqential/custom vacuum chamber
Removed all emissions
Koyo Racing radiator
Petitt AST
ACT S/S clutch
RacinbBeat/SR 9.5lbs lightweight flywheel
Questions:
1. Will my ECU support thes turbos, something I'm doubting highly...
2. What other sequential offerings came from Mazda JAP/Mada AUS?
I'm thinking of letting him sell this motor and just wait for another 13B-REW to come in as I really just want my car running again and I dont want to risk another motor loss. My previous one failed with only 20k due to a clogged fuel filter and a new ECU I had bought that was mistuned for my mods.

Yea, I still have my turbos which only have 20k on them and no shaftplay, cracking or any other damage what so ever. I suppose I'll just put those on then if that is indeed the case.
I just want to be assured I'll no longer run into any issues as my previous setup (midpipe, old aftermarket ECU and fuel filter issues) caused a lean condition and a boost spike of 17psi! I'll be porting the manifold and wastegate of whatever set I use, I'm thinking of making a larger WG sealing surface if I can to help allow for more porting and even more exhaust bypass. I am sticking with the M2 ECU as I like the tune and I cannot afford a standalone at this time, sadly.
I was told that you may need a Tripower gauge pod.

rule number one. Never listen to Rich. He's nuts I tell you. NUTS!
So that ecu you are running is at best a guess for even your current mod setup. Check the AFR's...you will see what I mean.
