Upgrade for stock tranny?

I asked this awhile back and got 0 response.... So I'm gonna try again here... I'm just not real impressed with the way the stock tranny shifts (when I slam it). So I'm curious what all you high horsepower people are doing to keep the tranny from blowing? Or are they actually pretty strong and we just happened to get a weak one?

Thanks
Chuck

What exactly don't you like about it? When was the last time the fluid was replaced? Are you using synthetic?

Almost everyone, even with over 400 rwhp, still uses the stock tranny. It can take it.

Well, when I slam shift from 1st to 2nd the tranny feels like it's gonna fall out... Then one time I slammed from 2nd to 3rd and the shifter went, but the tranny didn't. Had to pry it out of place to get it back into neutral. So maybe it's just this tranny. I just don't feel like it's very solid.
As far as maintence goes... we actually just swapped from an auto to this a few months ago. So the fluid is fresh. The transmission has 105k on it.

Thanks
Chuck

Maybe you shouldn't mistreat the transmission.

Oddly enough, that was the first version of what I was going to write to you. If you want to "slam" your transmission, knock yourself out. If you want to ask for advice on how to break your car, don't be surprised when people try to suggest to you not to do it.

I've always found mazda transmissions to not be as good at shifting as other makes. They always feel slow and clunky to change. I've had an rx3 4 speed, an rx5 5 speed, a series 1 rx7 5 speed (all in a 12a rx3) and now the stock rx7 3rd gen box. They all feel the same to me.

I was thinking of putting in a supra 6 speed. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Finally, someone who know's what I'm talking about... A supra 6 speed or a T56 in my opinion. The T56 would be bullet proof...

isn't 105k on the tranny a lot and you shouldn't expect it to be super smooth. my has 103k and that's what i'm telling myself to make me feel better

A supra 6 speed is huge and no way it would bolt up. A T56 supposedly wouldn't handle high rpms too well and I'm not sure if there's anyone out there that makes a rotary adapter. You can get a HKS or Greedy 6 speed for like 6 or 7k..

Maybe just get your transmission rebuilt?

I too say STOP ABUSING YOUR CAR.
