Upgrade sequence, too confusing
Upgrade sequence, too confusing
Ok, be easy this is my firsy posting.... Have '94 base with DP, Cat back from PFS, silicone hoses, Centerforce II, post mounted boost gauge. and a simple K&N Filtercharger in the stock airbox.
I want to step into the next level of perfomance. Everyone has a different line on how to address intake and ECU upgrades. Pettit says intake with pill change first. M2 says ECU. PFS says intake and intercooler. So the question becomes, which first? And why?, keeping in mind this is a daily driver. I'd like some advise.

I would get Intake first. Then if you want to get serious get a complete stand alone ECU like PFC, none of this remapped stuff.
Then, if you want to go more get a midpipe, and intercooler.you really coudl do either or, but without intercooler I woudln't run over 12 lbs of boost. I personally would do intercooler then midpipe. With PFC yoo will have all necesary monitoring and control, etc. run 13 lbs of boost and say hello to 320 rwhp.

You say that you aleady have downpipe and catback, and use K&Ns in the intake.
First get an ECU, preferably PFC. The PFC also acts as a boost controler so it actually saves you money over other chips. There are more advnced systems then the PFC also, but you sound like you need the PFC .
After that I would maybe look into an airbox, though I don't really think they do that much. They do make the engne bay look a lot better though.
Then you can go on to intercooler, etc, etc, but you have to make sure to have the PFC tuned at least after every other air flow upgrade, if not every air flow upgrade.
Safetly first man, you can never go wrong by upgrading the ECU. Failure to do so can result in a blown engine though. You will get a lot more out of the PFC then an air box anyway, that is for sure, now I just need to get myself one

I am where you are and my next step is PFC then IC then dial up the boost . Malachi151 is right on!
