Update: Car still won't start

Well I cleared all ECU codes and tried the correct unflooding process like I was hearing from a lot of people. The car seemed to pretty much be started a few times except for the fact that it would only stay that way as long as i was cranking on the starter. I checked the spark and it is fine. I am hoping you guys have a few more situations. I am very tempted to take it somewhere (as much as i don't want to) but it is really irritating me and my help (friend) is starting to get burnt out on my car and I am afraid I am going to lose that connection soon.

It just sucks b/c this is a problem that I wasn't having b4 I took this thing down and if I ever get this figured out I still have to worry about the original problems that I was trying to fix. :-(

Original Thread first describing problem

Thanks to all in advance.

...what worked for me was the starting fluid. it was a last resort, but worked like a charm.

Well the starting fluid didn't work....Sprayed it multiple times and each time was very close and the times i tried to start right after spraying it in was the best tries...even started twice but died shortly after. any other comments or techniques...Might be giving up pretty soon.

You mentioned your car has been sitting for quite awhile. Maybe your gas has gone bad?
My car flooded itself and wouldn't start, but I only had to crank it with the plugs out then crank it for a while again. It started up once it was cleared out.
From what you have posted here and in the other threads, I think the only thing missing may be bad gas.
Good Luck.

...sorry the starting fluid didn't work for you ...sounds like it almost did. if it started briefly twice, then maybe you've got other problems than just being flooded.

if it started briefly, then you've obviously got spark and a little fuel (maybe the starting fluid??), so i would look towards either something electrical (ECU, fuel pump relay, other relays, etc.) or possibly a lack of fuel (clogged fuel filter??).

sorry, those are the only suggestions i have for you. if no one else chimes in with some other advice, then you may need $*professional*$ help

...good luck....

Well I put in about 3 gallons of new gas before I started trying to start it. It probably only had about 2-3 in the tank to begin with. The fuel filter was changed about 2-3K miles ago, so that is not it. I am pretty sure I am getting a decent amount of fuel b/c the garage reeks of it when I am trying to start it. I dont' think I messed anything else up during the reinstall of everything but you never know , I guess.

I was wondering about the coils to the plugs. I know the trailing plugs matter which coil they go to but what about the leading. The manual shows them tied together. Does it matter which leading plug goes where?

A couple of thoughts....
Have you checked for "codes" from the computer?
http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/engine_codes.html

Since you removed and reinstalled the intake manifold, are you sure there are no leaks? this would possibly let it start but not allow it to run.

make sure the "water thermosensor" wire is connected (the manual points this out as a possible cause of partial combustion when engine is cold) which sounds like what you may have.

hope this helps
