Question Unusual hesitation at 4000 RPM's

I was driving back from Houston last night and I set my cruise control at about 4 grand in 5th gear and about three or four times there was a power loss and then it would pick up again. I disabled cruise control and just use the gas pedal and it still did it, but it was not as bad as it was when the cruise control was set.

Any ideas guys??

...I don't think so, the clutch was replace about 8 months ago. The engine would lose power and then the cruise control would push harder to get the car back up to speed.
